by Eva G. Writer

There are only a few people that think of spice blend recipes. But then, they are an important part of the cookery. Only those who are aware of the magical taste and the aroma of spice blends, make use of the pre-made curry powder and also the pre-made herbaceous blends, for instance, Italian seasoning. Spice blends are actually the pre-made or pre-prepared versions of the spices which are commonly employed in the cuisine of the country and in the culinary items as well. The blend of spices clearly represents the country’s cuisines and the typical style of cooking. If you are looking for a spicy food recipe, that is unlike Oriental dish or Tex-Mex, that you have ever had then nothing can beat vegetable korma curry recipes. Well, if you have never experienced the curry recipe then you can start with the Madras curry recipe which is the mildest of the curry ever. The very aroma of the particular spice blend is capable of evoking almost the entire country and the cuisine most poignantly than anything else.

Typical spice blends used in Thai and Indian recipes

Spice blends are prepared by combining various spices to reduce the cooking time. Apart from this, spice blends are the easiest ways of adding all the different spices without having to forget any. The Indian subcontinent widely makes use of the Indian spices blend prepared from curry leaves, cumin, turmeric, coriander seeds that are tied inexorably to the country. However, the mixture of cumin, saffron, dried mint is unmistakably tied to Thai recipes. Chinese blend of spices is prepared from the combination of classic oriental spices including star anise, Sichuan pepper, cinnamon, cloves, and fennel that is used in all the Chinese curry delicacies. For preparing a traditional North African dish, again you have to make use of the five spice blends including cumin, cinnamon, chillies, coriander seeds, and allspice. Allspice, in particular, is also the part of the classic Jamaican seasoning for the preparation of meat, deep-fired fish, and barbecued items and also of the Jamaican jerk seasoning. With the use of spice blends, vegetable Korma curry recipes can be prepared very easily and the cooking time is also very less.

The classic spice blend: curry powder

You might know that the classic spice blend is always the curry powder. Curry powder is the very spicy ‘masala’ blend that has travelled several countries to make itself a part of almost all the curry recipes. Curry powder recipes and the curry paste recipes can be found in the Indian subcontinent, West Africa, Jamaica, Indonesia and China. The Indian curry spice blend recipes, in particular, are very delicious and aromatic. The typical ‘Garam Masala’ which is used in all the Indian kitchens is the superb combination of coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cardamom seeds, cloves, black peppercorns, cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and black cardamoms. You need to toast the spices in a dry non-stick pan. Then, grind the seeds to a fine powder in the spice grinder or the coffee grinder and store it in the air tight container. You can sprinkle ‘garam masala’ over meats and vegetables to make them tastier.
