Sony Partner on Streaming Games, Microsoft, AI, and Chips

Microsoft and Sony on May 16 said that they collide with a strategic partnership in which Sony would use Microsoft’s cloud for media and games, and the two would work together to develop new image sensors.

The deal is in its early stages with the many specifics are yet to be determined. But the owners of two major consumersand interactive entertainment franchises –Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox platform – would collaborate content to consumers and stream games and provide game makers new development tools.

For many years, the Microsoft has been a key business partner for us, though of course the two companies that have also been competing in some areas, Sony Chief Executive Kenichiro Yoshida said in a statement that “I trust that our joint development of future cloud solutions will contribute greatly to the advancement of interactive content.”

The deal bolsters Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing business, helpsto push the Redmond, Washington-based organization’s market value past $1 trillion last month. It also helps Microsoft counter cloud market leader Amazon Web Services i.e. Amazon.com

Amazon has also jumped offering game makers new technology tools into the gaming market, and with its nearly $1 billion acquisition of Twitch, a major destination for gamers to watch other players competing in the e-sports market.

Japan’s Sony is also one of the major suppliers of camera chips for other devices and smartphones. Microsoft and Sony said they will potentially develop new image sensor chips that use Microsoft’s artificial intelligence technology for business clients. The two organizations did not require how the chips would be used.Intelligent cameras are currently being used in applications such as recognizingthe defective items coming off manufacturing lines with greater accuracy than human examines.

Microsoft and Sony said they would explore how to use Microsoft’s AI tools in Sony’s consumer products to offer user-friendly and highly intuitive AI experiences.

Microsoft’s technology for errands like identifying images is widely believed to be viable with better-known rivals such as Alphabet’s Google for the technology that customers touch. Sony makes a wide range of phones, televisions, and other consumer devices.
