  3. Initially, several countries around the world spurned bikini wear, as it was too revealing. Such was the case, that even 1951 Miss World pageant organizers banned participants from wearing bikinis, as they thought that models wearing bikinis in the swimsuit competition would get unfair advantage. Today, not even bikini has become vital in beauty pageants, but there are specific bikini competition suits for girls worldwide.
  4. Fashion designers wanted to ride on the buzzing wave of bikinis after its introduction in 1946, and so incorporated newer (or we can call them weird) innovations to keep themselves ahead of the competition. Such bizarre innovations included porcupine quills bikini, bikini constructed with red hair, bra cup attached propeller bikini, and many more.
  5. Contrary to the popular belief that G-string is derived from fourth violin string, the “G” in G-string refers to ‘Groin”.
  6. Bikini made its first appearance in coveted Sports Illustrated magazine cover in 1964. It showcased a modest, white bikini, which had a bra-like top and brief-like bottoms.
  7. The swimwear market is dominated by women swimwear, with 70% hold. Whilst men’s swimwear constitutes 17%, and the rest 13% by children’s swimwear.
