Some Key Horoscope Tips For a Successful Brahmin Wedding
by Astro Ved Online Astrology ConsultationIn Hindu weddings, an
important element is the horoscope, also called Janam Patri, Kundali, etc. In
the old days, soon after a child was born, its horoscope would be made by the family
astrologer. The horoscope, which charts the positions of the planets in the sky
at the exact moment of the child’s birth, indicates many things like the
child’s personality, talents, and the major events in the child’s life like
education, career, marriage, etc. It can also give insights into the person’s
health, finances, and relationships with others.
Nowadays, more and
more people are opting to have love marriages. They know their partner well,
have probably dated each other for a while, and are pretty sure that they want
to spend the rest of their life with them. so the idea of Horoscope or Kundali
Matching seems unnecessary to them. kundali Matching is very important in
arranged marriages, for the boy and the girl do not know each other well, and
hence it is essential to determine if they will make a compatible couple. This
is the purpose of Kundali Matching.
Those Hindus who
believe in Astrology still choose to do Kundali Matching before they get
married. Even if there are some problems, the astrologer might offer them
remedies too. Among Brahmins especially, Kundali Matching is still done before
fixing marriage alliances. And if the horoscopes don’t match, most Brahmins are
likely to call off the wedding, too.
Once a Brahmin family
has zeroed in on a potential bride or groom for their offspring, they consult a
good Vedic astrologer who specializes in Kundali Matching. He/she will compare
the two horoscopes and determine if the couple will be compatible. Let’s look
at some of the important parameters that come into play in a Brahmin wedding.
Gunas
There are 8 different
parameters or kootas which are used by the astrologer for checking
compatibility. They include varna (caste), tara (birth star), vashya (mutual
attraction), nadi (health and physiology), etc. All of them are given certain
points. In total, there are 36 points (gunas). So this process is called Guna
Milan. For instance, Varna is assigned 1 point, Tara has 3 points, Nadi has 8
points, and so on. If a couple gets more than 30 points, it is an excellent
match. If it is above 27, it is still a good match. But if they get less than
18 points in the Guna Milan, the couple is seen to be incompatible.
Importance of Nadi
The most important of
all the parameters is Nadi. This is associated with energy, health, and
physiology. It also carries the highest points. If the marriage is to succeed,
the boy and girl should belong to different Nadis. If they belong to the same
Nadi, they will score zero when their Nadi kootas are matched. This is called
Nadi Dosha, and in most cases, the marriage will not take place. But some
exceptions are there. For instance, if the couple have different birth stars,
Nadi dosha may not harm them.
Mangal Dosha
Mars can play the
spoiler in a marriage alliance. When Mars or Mangal is afflicted in a person’s
horoscope, he/she has Mangal Dosha. It is believed that a Mangalik person’s
spouse will have an untimely death, or the two will divorce. Some, to nullify
this dosha, will marry the person to a tree first. This is because they believe
that the problems will affect only the first marriage. The person will then
marry the potential partner in a second ceremony.
Gotra
Apart from the 8
kootas, gotra or lineage koota is also considered important by the Brahmin
community. The belief is that if both the boy and the girl are from the same
gotra, the marriage will not be successful. But there are no points to be
tallied in gotra koota, and it will not affect the matching of 36 gunas.
These are some of the
main factors that need to be taken into account by Brahmins when fixing a
marriage alliance. Doing so will ensure a long and happy marriage for their
offspring.
