 Cast iron wood stoves are best choice for many family, they can be served as a great source for entire homes and single rooms or areas, they also can be used to cooking. All the things show that cast iron wood-burning stoves are playing an important role in our family, so it is essential to maintain them. Therefore, we will talk about how to maintain cast iron wood stove and offer some instructions.

In fact, there don’t have too many instructions about maintaining cast irons wood-burning stove, because all the rules about maintaining wood stoves just include two aspects, one is use it correctly, the other one is keep it clean. We will talk about the two aspects in detail. 

Use your stove correctly

There are many articles about how to use a wood stove, what should you take into consideration when you are using a wood burner, how to make your stove work efficiently, etc, those instructions are not meaningless, you should stick to them, and it can prevent from damages because of misuse. Some of those instructions are very important, such as place your stove on a hard and flat floor, place or move your stove gently(because it may be broken if you move it rudely), keep your stove dry and don’t spill any liquid on the surface of your stove, don’t burn green or wet fuel in your stove, etc.

Keep your stove clean 

It is essential to keep your stove clean, no matter the outside and inside, don’t let your stove wear or staining, because it can keep your stove in working order. After your stove is enough cold, and then clear other accessories, then you can remove the excess ashes, don’t remove all the ashes and leave some inside of your stove, which can keep your stove warm. The next, it’s turn to clean its surface, a scrub with a wire brush is the useful tool you can use to do it, and sandpaper or steel wool for rust spots and calcified deposits, but you should rub the spots gently in case that you may broke your stove. 

When you finish the cleaning stove, maybe you have another step to do because some cast iron stove need to polish. If you plan to polish for your stove, you should use the blackening polish which is made for cast iron wood-burning stoves. At this moment, you need a clean rag and spread it on a section of the stove, then use another clean rag to rub the polish in circles and remove any excess polish. Repeat the process of polishing until you finish the entire stove, include the corners, legs and comers. 

If you do well in using your stove correctly and keeping it clean, your cast iron stove can be used for many years and work efficiently all the time.
