Some Important Hot Tub Winterizing Tips
When you are not using your hot tub during severe winter months, it is better to winterize it. Failure to do so will cause damage to many of your hot tub parts and hot tub accessories. But the parts that will be affected the most are the pump and the plumbing lines. Many spa owners are under the false impression that winterizing a spa is a tedious process. But, it is not true. It is very easy to winterize or close a spa by using some useful steps.
Some important tips for winterizing a spa
• Shut off all therapy control valves and open all the water jets. Also switch off the spa circuit breaker.
• Drain the spa. It is always recommended to use a good submersible pump to drain off the water. If you do not have a pump, prefer using a garden hose for this purpose. When you are draining off the spa water, be sure to run the drain line to an area that can handle the drainage.
• Take away the cabinet panel in front of the spa’s equipment compartment.
• Open the hose spigot located near the primary pump to make sure that the remaining water is drained off easily.
• Also, clear water from the water pumps and return lines. The return lines must be cleared of water; otherwise chances are there that water may return back.
• Once the water is cleared off, remove the drain plug from the water pump. Reconnect the heater unions.
• Place the cabinet panel in front of the spa’s equipment compartment again and also turn the spa circuit breaker.
• Turn on the blower to expel water from the plumbing lines and air channels. Again switch off the spa circuit breaker.
• Remove the spa cover and use a wet vacuum at each fitting to remove any water remaining in water lines and shells of the spa.
• Sponge out the remaining water from the shell and remove debris too.
• Next, you must clean the spa filters. You must store the filter basket and filter elements indoors.
• Cover the spa again in such a manner that rain water or snow does not enter your spa.
If you follow the above steps, you will complete the work of winterizing or closing your spa in a better way.
