Such type of solar charger setups generally uses intelligent charge controller or charge regulators. MPPT charge controller is one of the most used one charge controllers. Functionally, a charge controller limits the rate at which electric current is added to or drawn from electric batteries. It prevents overcharging and may protect against overvoltage. It helps a lot in reducing battery performance or lifespan, and may pose a safety risk. It may also prevent completely draining of charges.
