Smart Design Hacks to Fix a Room Where Nothing-Goes-Together

by James Spencer Blogger

“Aiming to counterbalance the erraticness of your hotch-potch living space…?” Top interior designers say that it never easy as it seems!

Whenever you scroll through Instagram or Pinterest for immaculately-staged living spaces and bedrooms- it may appear that the key to it is buying the right furniture and tchotchkes.

But, it is only when you truly get down to designing your adult pad using some non-hand-me-down embellishing items is when you come to a realisation that it is not a breeze. Instead, it one impossible chess game- which you lack the understanding and expertise to check-mate!

  • The copper brown couch appears wonderful in the storeroom, but it clashes with your kitchen island
  • That mid-century desk is superb, but it doesn’t compliment your old school-days dining table

Or, whenever you look to counterbalance your mishmash room; somehow you ended up tipping the scales in another direction, only to find that another corner needed tending and fixing.

So, it turns out to be an endless toxic cycle. But fret not- as you are not the only one with this problem-some headache.

Fortunately, revered interior designer(s) in Buckinghamshire offers some smart hacks to fix your room which doesn’t seem to blend with anything.

  • Tie the Space Together With Recurring & Cohesive Colours

Pull everything together using trending recurring space colours and then add a large piece of artwork with similar hues. It can be an eccentric-looking natural fibre rug (vintage Dhurrie, Antique Outshank or even animal hide) or even a painting from ancient times.

Create layers by throwing in some colourful pillows, lampshades, and other décor accessories to make the room cohesive and free-flowing.

  • Play With Hardware

If the existing hardware piece is throwing off the room appearance, swap them. Look to change the cabinet hardware, doorknobs and add an eclectic style shelving unit to anchor the room.

Look to add small items, accessories, toys, and finish off the display with your fav books. This will help you put an end to those random odds and ends.

  • Embrace the ‘Green’ Streak & Make It the Unifying Thread

Coalesce your hotchpotch room by making ‘Green’ as the common thread. Add some exotic indoor plants. You can also opt for low maintenance faux plants.

Most quality interior design experts in Marlow opine that adding Greenery into a room is one way to spur new life and make it appear more interconnected.

They further recommend:-

“If the old sofa is appearing to be the odd thing out, replace it with a neutral styled one. It will further give you scope to mix it with other styles of rugs, tables and chairs.”

  • Add Texture for the Missing Cohesive Link

When you have a room which ceases to pull together, present it a textured treatment to achieve that missing cohesive link. Options exist in plenty- like fuzzy pillows for the couch, velvet floor installation, velvet ottoman for your existing coffee table and a fuzzy throw on each chair.

Doing so will allow your eyes to register similarity and allow the room to flow effortlessly.

  • Have Fun with the 60/30/10 % Colour Proportion

It’s cosmopolitan to blend different colour styles, provided you adhere to the 60/30/10% proportion.

Simply put- for your hotchpotch room; look to incorporate 60% of the prime colour, 30% of the secondary hue, and 10% of any accent shade. This usually allows you to achieve a cohesive appearance.

However, it is easier said than done, considering that every room dimension is different. To make everything gel properly; you can look to increase or decrease each of the colour proportion (but only marginally) until you get it right.

Last Words:-

In times, when you have an overly eclectic room, there’s always some linchpin that makes everything feel off or imbalanced. But if you can figure out what that fulcrum is; you can easily defeat it and pull every element in your room together.

Still, if you need help to put your pieces together in your room, feel free to get in touch with a renowned interior design specialist serving in your area. They will surely suggest you interesting and trending ideas to achieve uniformity in your living space.
