Skiing and Getting Ready for the Trip of Your Life!
by Liyo Jat WelcomeSkiing is a combination of physical and mental endurance, your body’s
resilience to the cold, and even your ruggedness. You also have to
master the various techniques and abilities that you will need in order
to ski particular sections of a run or piste. Below are 10 tips to help
you improve your skiing.
1 – Check Your Equipment
Always
make sure you have everything you need, or that you have arranged to
get everything you need. Consider where and how you will be skiing and
be sure that you have the appropriate equipment for the course you
choose. The wrong gear might not only make your run more difficult but
could put you in danger.
2 – Get Fit
Skiing
is very physical and you will be using muscles that you don’t use when
sat behind your desk at work. Practice your stance, hit the gym, go
walking, and take up running in advance of your skiing holiday.
3 – Perfect Your Stance
Your
stance is essential to your skiing performance. Remember that nobody’s
looking and ensure that you can stand, bend, lean, and generally perform
all of the necessary motions before you get on the plane.
4 – Work On Your Balance
Balance
is critical. If you don’t have balance, you are falling over. It can be
difficult to practice balance at home, but you can head to a local ski
slope, snow park, or dry ski centre to master your balance.
5 – Consider Lessons
If
you’re going on a skiing holiday and have never skied before then you
will find that you spend a lot of your time on the floor, or taking
lessons. Consider taking lessons locally so that you at least have a
good understanding of the basics when you arrive.
6 – Drink Water
Drink
plenty of water. The body will sweat a lot while skiing and as you
become dehydrated, you will not only lose physical sharpness but mental
agility too. Your performance will suffer.
7 – Sleep Well
Choose the best ski accomodation.
The body also reacts sluggishly if you are not well rested. Avoid the
temptation to stay up drinking until 2 in the morning, and get some
rest, ready to hit the lifts early and fully alert.
8 – Eat
The
body needs vitamins too. You will find it easier to combat the cold,
use your muscles, and think straight, if you have eaten a proper meal.
Consider hot breakfasts, and take energy snack bars to stock up while
you’re on the piste.
9 – Look Where You Want To Go
When
skiing look where you want to go and your body and skis will naturally
follow this line. If you look straight ahead then this is where you are
going to go, so look where you want to turn.
10 – Practice, Practice, Practice…
The
body and the brain become more skilled at something, the more they
practice. Don’t sit out the first couple of days and do sign up to
practice at your local ski slope before heading out.
