Simple Tricks Can Make Your Kitchen Feel More Spacious

by James Allen Marketing Manager

Does your small kitchen keep you from hosting parties or gatherings? Trying to prepare a big meal for many people in a small space can make your kitchen feel even smaller. However, there are many things you can do, such as using smaller knobs and handles on cabinets, to help open up the kitchen so it feels larger yet still comfortable and homey.

Find a “Home” for Everything

A great tip for making your kitchen appear to be more spacious is to have the least amount of clutter possible. Put everything on your countertops away so it’s not visible, including the toaster, blender, and other small appliances, even if you use them daily. The less clutter your eye sees, the bigger the kitchen looks, and you might find that getting them out everyday and putting them away after use is not as much of a chore as you thought it would be. Keep mail and other paperwork in a separate area of the house.

Change Your Cabinet Doors and/or Backsplash

Using glass doors on the upper cabinets can make your kitchen seem bigger than it actually is because of the depth that catches the eye. Crisp white or bright-colored organized dishes in your cabinets will help add to the spaciousness, as would using mirrored tiles for your backsplash.

Pullout Pantry Packs a Lot Into a Little Space

A newer trend in cabinetry is tall pullout pantries. Because of their height and depth, they take up minimum wall space and need as little as 8” across. Pullout pantries are usually installed next to the refrigerator and store canned goods, spices, snacks, or just about anything else you would keep in a standard pantry.

Pick a Bright Color Palette

Instead of using color on kitchen walls, paint them a bright white. It gives an illusion that there is no transition between the walls and the floor, making the kitchen look more spacious. If you believe white is not doable in your kitchen, simply choose a wall color that matches your floors and cabinetry or one that is in the same color palette.

When you have tried all of the tips and tricks to help your kitchen feel more spacious but it doesn’t seem to be enough, a kitchen remodel can really open up your space. With a professional Boise kitchen renovation design utilizing custom cabinets and sleek fixtures, a new kitchen will help you get maximum enjoyment of your home.
