Similarities and Dissimilarities of LVP and LVT

by Philip Smith Inbound Marketing Manager

LVP stands for Luxury Vinyl Plank and LVT for Luxury Vinyl Tile. Of many flooring materials available in the market, these two are among the popular ones.

Technically, both the materials are same. The only difference is their shape and size. For that reason, LVPs are often called elongated luxury vinyl tiles. It simply explains that LVP is more desirable than LVT today. However, that does not mean that luxury vinyl tiles are less or not popular.

Similarities between LVT and LVP

  • Both the materials are a low-cost substitute for highly expensive wood. You can use them to create real-like wood flooring.
  • LVT and LVP both are waterproof materials, and can be used in wet and watery indoor areas like bathroom and laundry room.
  • Installing LVT or LVP flooring is often a DIY project. Though, you should hire a pro, if you haven’t worked on any floor project before.
  • They help create smooth, low sheen, and durable flooring in your home.

Dissimilarities between LVT and LVP

  • The installation method of LVT and LVP is different.
  • Glue-down LVT and LVP may not be completely waterproof.
  • Glue-down LVP is more suitable for larger areas. And Self-adhesive LVT would be a good choice for smaller areas and walls.
  • LVP is used for creating real-like effect of wood plank flooring. They look quite similar to wood planks, so the floor you install looks flawless. LVT on the other hand looks like regular square or rectangular tiles.
