Significance & Usage Of Raised Floor Electric Boxes

by Gerry Griffin Owner
Depending upon the design of a commercial building as well as specifications and needs of people working inside it, there are several ways of bringing the necessary voice, data, video and power cables within the workstation. In general, wires running through the floor or ceiling of an office are terminated with a wall power outlet. However, there exists another termination option that can be enabled by raised floors and electrical boxes.

Raised floors are ideal for installations that encompass too many cables. Rather than having all the cords run overhead, using a raised flooring for them would enable faster installation as well as easier modifications. Let’s consider a simple and elaborate example to understand this properly. A commercial building with volumes of computer hardware is bound to have high communication requirements. There would be a large number of workstations, with each desk necessitating an outlet for plugging in essential equipment such as telephone lines, electrical devices and computer accessories. In order to meet such extensive power requirements, it would be more feasible to have raised floor boxes instead of wall outlets. Not only would it reduce clutter, but also impart a clean and organised look to the whole area.

Many businesses often ask how are electric floor boxes useful . Some may find it hard to believe, but these boxes can handle almost any cable type, including shielded twisted-pair, unshielded twisted-pair, screened twisted-pair, fibre optic, power and coaxial cords. Larger versions can even house up to 10 or 20 ports, which increases convenience of using several devices at once by plugging them in one place.

There are, however, certain things that buyers must consider prior to purchase. Whether the necessity is a stainless steel floor box or an aluminium panel, it is important to determine the required size. One must also decide what kind of lid they want the product to have. Some boxes have hinged lids that are supported by a couple of pillars when opened. Others come with a detachable lid which can be replaced when not in use.

If the floor boxes need to kept out of sight for maintaining the office aesthetics, they can be covered with a carpeting material once they have been installed. To further up the convenience factor, small holes can be cut into the carpet just above the lids. This would help in keeping the overall appearance of the premises unchanged and also make it easier for workers to access the electric boxes whenever needed.
