Shunning Corporate Shell
When Anoodha Kunnath realised she’d finally had it enough making corporate films and decided to move from Bengaluru to Kochi and launch an independent production, her move was not greeted without skepticism. She was warned that Kochi would not be fertile ground for innovative ideas, and that she ought to move to bigger cities like Mumbai or Delhi. But Anoodha stood by her decision, and less than a year after launching Curiouser, her independent production house, has proven detractors wrong.

“Corporate films stick to a tried and tested formula,” Anoodha notes. “You have people speaking about, say, a firm’s new offering, and go on talking about its features, and there are visuals of the product. I wanted to make films that went beyond being merely descriptive, instead conveying a certain flavour through a conscious use of the medium.” And that explains why she borrowed from Lewis Carroll to name her production house. “It signifies an inclination to probe further and not just present what is there,” she adds.
For the Thrissur-native brought up in Oman, films happened almost by accident, while she was pursuing her bachelors’ in architecture in Chennai. A chance participation in a film-making workshop organised by Cord Studio and the Chennai International Film Festival led to her film winning the third prize and being screened at the festival. That proved to be the decisive moment, leading her to pursue her masters in film and video from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
Incidentally, it was at NID that she met her future husband, noted fashion designer Sreejith Jeevan, and it was the film she made for Sreejith’s brand Rouka, titled Strung Together that ended up winning the best fashion film award at the Lakme Fashion Week in 2014.
Even amidst the plethora of equipment that surrounds filmmakers today, Anoodha retains her conviction that content is king. “However, the general practice is often the other way round. Say you have a new type of camera or a lens. The concept is often constructed around this new equipment, which fairly limits your expression.”
Besides Rouka, Anoodha has made films for Xandari Harbour in Mattancherry, Kayal Island Retreat and Covelong Point in Tamil Nadu. Are there plans to break into the feature film format. “A year later, maybe,” was her reply.See more at:prom dresses uk cheap
