What is a shrub?A shrub, when referring to mixed drinks, is a type of two entirely different articulated beverages which are related in some way. There are still people who get confused between the two, but the first shrub being talked about is fruit syrup. This fruit syrup uses vinegar to preserve it and is mixed with either alcohol or water to make a tantalising, refreshing and soothing drink used fondly by many people. Any kind of vinegar can be used to make shrubs. The only criteria that it should fulfil is that it should contain at least 5 percent acidity. Distilled vinegar, has a sharp and clear flavour. Since vinegar contains high amount of acid, it doesn’t help the growth of bacteria. But some vinegars support the growth of bacteria. And so you should be thorough with the type of vinegar you use. Only then would you be able to savour the taste of this ever green drink to its core.
