by Sophia Loren Organic Menstrual Cup

Aren’t all women superheroes? Women play many roles in their lives. They are mothers, sisters, lovers, CEOs, friends, and whatnot. While women play so many roles from their day of birth, often they get strangled from the path of self-care. Menstrual hygiene is one such crucial aspect that is often overseen by society in the veil of shape or negligence.

According to the National Family Health Survey of 2015-16, only 336 million menstruating women of about 121 million (which is roughly 36 percent) are using sanitary napkins. The circumstances are so drastic that about 23 million women drop out every year when they reach their menstrual age. Menstrual health is still taboo and conditions for menstruation women in India can only improve when awareness about menstrual hygiene is spread. Most women in India aren’t even aware of a product called a menstrual cup. And those who know, are worried about menstrual cup price or its way of insertion and use.

Having said that, let’s talk about this simple menstrual hygiene product.

How does a menstrual cup work?

The menstrual cup is a kind of menstrual hygiene product that is designed for use inside the vagina. The menstrual cup or shecup collects blood and it doesn’t absorb the menstrual flow as tampons or pads do. These cups are made from rubber or silicone and you can use one single cup all the way through your entire cycle. Shecups are made from medical-grade silicone so, they won’t irritate your vaginal lining and won’t cause infections or inflammations. Menstrual cup insert are easy and they are safe to use.

How to use a menstrual cup?

To use a menstrual cup, first of all, you need to wash your hands thoroughly. Then apply water to the rim of the cup as a method of lubrication. Never use a synthetic lube as it might irritate your skin. Then tightly fold the menstrual cup in hand while holding it in one hand while the rim is facing upwards. Then insert the cup into your vagina like you do with a tampon but without an applicator. While you make the menstrual cup insertmake sure that the Shecup sits a few inches below the cervix. Once the shecup is in your vagina, rotate the cup and spring it open in order to create an airtight seal for stopping the leak.

Why menstrual cups are better?

Periods are undoubtedly no walk in the park. You would be dealing with cramps, you have to protect your clothing during the heavier flow days and the body ache and mood swings come as a cherry on the top. When the scenario is difficult, then why not use the simplest product for convenience and support? Menstrual cups are a way better method to manage your period. Why? Because they are eco-friendly, cost-effective in the long run and menstrual cup prices are reasonable. Shecups generate less landfill waste and there is no embarrassing odor as there is in pads or tampons.
