SEO and the Use of Technology
I think I’m the perfect person to speak on the subject of
SEO marketing and the use of technology. This might age me, but I have been
doing SEO for at least 17 years. I have seen search engine optimization in its
infancy and watched evolve to what it is today.
When first starting, SEO it was much more simplistic.
Today there are hundreds of software programs out there that provide an
analysis of on and offsite SEO issues. Back in the day, all you need was
keywords in the title tag, headers, and a bunch of backlinks with the same
keyword anchor text.
Google
Pagerank
When backlink building, the only thing marketers focused on
was PageRank. It was designed by Google to show the value of a site. It scored
a site on a number value system from 0 to 10. The higher the number the better
the site. What happened next is everyone started to abuse this. Marketers were
going after a mass amounts of backlinks from high Pagerank sites.
The shift in technology for SEO occurred when Google got
tired of all the spamming and unethical use of backlinks to rank on their
search engine. They put an end publicly listing Pagerank and created terms and
conditions for marketers to follow.
SEO in
Today's World
Fast-forward to today and you will see how search engine
marketing has evolved into the multi-billionaire dollar business it is today.
As SEO becomes more complex the need for software became more prevalent.
Software developers realized this need and created SEO software to aid in the
ranking process.
In today's market, there are hundreds of companies producing
software for search analytics, onsite SEO audits, and backlink monitoring. Some
of the software out there works well, and some not so much. In my opinion,
companies that have produced their software to analyze a specific niche have had
much more success.
Online
Marketing Software That I Use
I have used a variety of software over the years. I will
cover my favorite software that I currently use and explain what I like about
it and how it helps me with my work.
Screaming Frog: This is an SEO spider tool that scans
your website and provides data on broken links, page title, and meta
description, duplicate content, and redirects. This software is a time-saver,
otherwise, you would have to manually do all these tasks.
Ahrefs: This is my favorite software and provides so
much data on backlinks. Not only can you view your websites backlink profile,
but you can view your competitors as-well. The data collected allows you to
make informed decisions on how to build backlinks for your site.
SEM Rush: This software primarily started out to help
people with their PPC campaign management services but has evolved into much
more. They provide traffic numbers for keywords along with being able to deep
dive into technical onsite search engine marketing issues.
Google Analytics: Well I love this tool because it is
free and allows me to track useful information on marketing campaigns ran and
what people are clicking on my website. This information is vital to improving
any online marketing campaigns that I run.
