Sending Your Son to A Boarding School in India

by DPS Panipat City Education

Deciding on whether to send your son to a boarding school could depend upon your child’s behavior. Some of the common signs that show that your son needs an extra attention provided by a boarding school can be

  • ·         Lack of respect for elders, parents and bold resistance to authority.
  • ·         Unexplained outbursts of anger and a short temper.
  • ·         Behaving violently with parents, siblings, peers and friends.
  • ·         Alcoholic or drug addicted
  • ·         Stealing and other unlawful activities
  • ·         Dropping out or lack of motivation to study
  • ·         Running away
  • ·         Breaking rules, curfews and law enforcement
  • ·         Impulse control problems
  • ·         Lying to escape, manipulating others and blaming.

How a Boarding school helps?

It is a common mindset of parents to think that boarding schools in India are filled with rich kids or think of movies that portray teenage fantasies. But the reality is far from that. A lot of boarding schools have a strong bearing to help troubled teenagers and pre-teens.

A child’s behavioral problems could be the effect of his environment and peer group. #boardingschools help to segregate the children from troubled circumstances. Even alternative schools for children with persistent behavioral issues cannot easily separate them from troubled peers as they can still meet on evenings and weekends. However, while a child is enrolled in a boarding school, he will be completely detached from his troubled surroundings.

The student-teacher ratio of a boarding school in Delhi is much less than that of traditional schools which helps the child gets an individualized care they need for permanent correction of their behavioral issues. The student – teacher ratio of traditional schools could be as high as 20 to 1 even in an ‘alternative program’. But boarding schools can provide a one on one interaction and mentorship.

Many problem children cannot work well in the traditional classroom environment of books and lessons. But international boarding schools in India work differently by including both indoor and outdoor activities like farming and ranching that bring out the child’s innate nature and instills a solid work ethic.

Last but not the least, boarding schools could teach life lessons from a spiritual and religious aspect which are not taught in public schools. When all hope is lost, God gives you the last abode. For instance a Christian school could use Biblical principles in their curriculum which could undo the damage done by cultural and other environmental factors.
