Wouldn’t it be fun to sleep directly under the beautiful Northern Lights at night? You can derive this pleasure by paying for one of the igloo rentals in Finland. Many igloos today are made of special thermal glass. Inside the igloo, you can enjoy normal temperature and stare back at the heavens looking down upon you. Finland will give you crystal clear views of the starry skies and the Northern Lights.

Each one of the igloos is equipped with luxury beds and a toilet. There is abundant space for two persons to spread out, while you may find larger ones as well. The igloo presents a one-of-a-kind opportunity to reside in comfortable room temperature and watch the clear sky, as the temperature outside plummets down to -30 degrees C.

If you have arrived in Finland to spread time, chances are that you would be immensely fond of travel and photography. The snowy landscape of Finland is great enough to capture some spectacular sights. Reindeer, dogs and arctic terns are the most common animals that you will see here.

Natural phenomenon in Finland

The Northern Lights, scientifically called as Aurora Borealis, are considered to be once-in-a-lifetime experiences for most people. These beautiful greenish lights are visible for almost 200 nights a year in Lapland, a place in Finland. Traditional ways to spot Aurora are cross country skiing, travelling on snowmobiles and sled dog touring. But if gazing at the cold and dark sky is not your thing, you can always choose to be in one of the best igloos in Finland.

Another phenomenon visible here during summers is the Midnight Sun. Finnish Lapland receives sunshine 24 hours a day for 3 months a year. This is in complete contrast to winters which are totally devoid of sunlight. This period creates the settings for wonderful activities such as hiking on beautiful fells and visiting a cultural event such as the Midnight Sun Film Festival in Sodankyla.

Now there are different properties to stay in Finland. Most of the igloos are present within the Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village and the Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort. The igloos can be used either by a group of friends or by couples. Two-person igloos consist of a toilet and an option to include an extra bed. The four-person igloos have their own toilet and shower.

Some of the thermal glass igloos are also capable of sleeping up to 6 people. These large ones are more expensive, as they feature a fireplace, a kitchenette, a bedroom with glass roof and a private sauna. A huge smoke sauna is available at Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village. The West Village also has log cabins, which consist of cooking facilities, a fireplace and shower arrangements.

Food available

At the Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village, you will find 4 restaurants. Several guests have rated the food highly at this place. Two of the restaurants have been made in a traditional Laplander hut. Specialities served here include char-grilled salmon and reindeer. Even the smoke sauna has its own restaurant, called as Savusauna.

So how do you spend time here, apart from eating and star gazing? Well, one of the ways is to depart on a reindeer safari. You can spend the day driving your own sleigh in a caravan which is handled by a reindeer herder. On the way, you will be able to hear the muffled sounds of the reindeers’ hooves, other wild animal footsteps and also hear the wind rustling tree branches. You will never be able to feel this close to nature as you will in this particular trip to Finland.
