The City and Country of San Francisco are located 20 minutes from the San Francisco International Airport, 30 minutes from Oakland International Airport, 25 minutes from Sausalito and Berkeley, and 1 hour from Napa and Sonoma. Just imagine, you have already booked the best hotel and hired a car! And you are already in San Francisco! The city airport has four terminals (1, 2, 3, and International) and seven boarding areas (A through G), and 115 gates arranged alphabetically. The International Terminal is for international flights only with exceptional food services, lounge zones, and shops for international visitors. The terminal consists of a ring of terminals. Star Alliance carriers are the main service providers. If you are not sure about the terminal, just search for one of two main designations for the International is "I", and "INTL."

If you are an economy class traveler, you may book online your car from one of the car rental services available in the San Francisco area. Many world known companies with have large parks of minivans and trucks to choose from at the car rental branch at the Airport. Such giant car rental companies as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, and Hertz have a wide selection of vehicles including luxury, sports, and fuel-efficient rental cars. Before you pick your rental car, you may visit one of the airport lounges: Air France - KLM Lounge (International Terminal, Airside, Concourse A), United Club (International Terminal, Airside, Concourse G, 3rd Floor).

Car rental desks are located inside the airport and you can pick a car or hire a car at the Airport's Rental Car Center. To access the Rental Car Center, take the AirTrain Blue Line. The main car rental companies are Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Fox, Hertz, national, and Thrifty. If you rent from one of the other companies, their car rental offices are located off-airport and you will be provided with free shuttle service from the SFO Rental Car Center. Off airport services are Advantage, Sixt, etc. When you pick your car, you will drive along U.S. Route 101, 13 miles (21 km) south of downtown San Francisco. It is a short freeway (not a toll) that connects US 101 with Interstate 280. If you stay in the city for a day or two, you may book one of the airport hotels. Their atmosphere is welcoming and inviting. If you plan a long vacation, you may choose from 350 hotels in the San Francisco area using real hotel reviews.  Frequent travelers admire a visit to airport Museum, the first museum in an international airport working since 1980.
