Samsung launches its slimmest phone in India

by Alicia Brown Application Developer

India is touted to be one of the fastest growing smartphone consumer markets in the world. That is perhaps the reason so many smartphone manufacturers have been focusing their efforts towards the region. In the last two quarters alone, many low/mid-budget smartphone manufacturers have ventured into the market, and successfully so. Manufacturers need to introduce phones to keep pace with consumer’s short attention and interest span. Of course, the fact that now app stores are brimming with content transfer apps  that help you to transfer content from one phone to another, also plays a role. That said, the big wigs are trying not to lose sight of the low hanging fruit. The world’s leading smartphone manufacturer, Samsung, today announced the launch of the Galaxy A8 in India. Oh, and before we forget, measuring at 5.9mm, it is also Samsung’s slimmest phone to date.

Samsung’s slim stunner has a full metallic, and runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Powered by Octa-Core (1.8GHz Quad Core + 1.3GHz Quad Core) Exynos 5430 processor with a 2GB RAM, the model packs a punch – as expected. The Samsung Galaxy A8 also houses an internal memory of 32GB, but doesn’t that limit your desire, as that is expandable to reach an impressive 128GB via microSD. If we’re looking at the device itself, it boasts a 5.7-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display with Full HD Super AMOLED display, a 16MP rear camera (with LED flash) and a 5MP front-facing camera with wide-angle lens.

It seems like the Indian market is extremely receptive to dual-SIM phones. Because like most phones being launched in the region, Galaxy A8 also hosts Dual SIM capabilities, with the second SIM slot doubling as a microSD slot. The smartphone weighs a mere 151 gram smartphone, and comes with a fingerprint scanner, conveniently disguised as the Home button. Connectivity options available on the phone include 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Available in the colors Black, White and Gold, the smartphone could set you back approximately 500 US dollars.
