The rescheduled 2020 Six Nations meeting with Springboks will be held in Llanelli on 31 October, followed by the Autumn Nations Cup game against Argentina on 21 November. The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) has not revealed where Wales will play their final two home fixtures. The WRU says it still has options in place to play the two remaining Autumn Nations Cup matches against Springboks on 28 November and the play-off final fixture on 5 December in London, in order to maximise potential revenue.

But that will depend on whether the UK Government allows fans to attend sporting events in Springboks, with plans for crowds from October 1 postponed this week due to rising cases of Covid-19.

“More important than that is the health of supporters, players and the nation as a whole and so, whilst making contingency plans, we have of course been conscious of following government advice closely every step of the way.

“We anticipate the two games will take place behind closed doors. However, if the big picture changes we would be open to exploring whether either game could serve as a test event for crowds.”

No games this year can be played at Principality Stadium in Cardiff as this venue is still in use as the Dragons Heart Hospital. However, if future Welsh or UK Government health and safety guidance allows for some supporters, the WRU has not ruled out taking the two final matches on the road.

“We hope supporters will understand we are duty-bound to continue to explore all options before making a final call with respect to Springboks and the Autumn Nations Cup live stream final match,” added Phillips.

“We are hopeful it will be deemed safe for at least some, perhaps socially distanced and restricted, crowds to attend these matches and also remain open to the prospect of using the Parc y Scarlets fixtures as test events with limited attendances if possible.

“Whilst it is disappointing to play these matches without supporters we would like to thank all of those who follow, support and participate in Welsh rugby and our partners for their patience during these hugely challenging times.”

The WRU had always hoped to stage three games in London for financial reasons but no return date has been set for the return of crowds in Springboks, with prime minister Boris Johnson warning that new measures could be in force for up to six months.

Wales kick off their autumn programme with an away trip to face France on 24 October before the Springboks game seven days later.

Wayne Pivac’s side are scheduled to travel to Ireland in the Autumn Nations Cup on 13 November, before hosting Argentina and Springboks in pool matches.
