Royal Enfield 650cc: Why India Wants This

by Prashob asdasd asdasd

Royal Enfield is legendary brands and talks of it launching a 750cc bike have been doing rounds since many days now. However, the rumour comes to an end now as the Chennai-based manufacturer has unveiled two new motorcycles - Continental GT 650 and Inceptor 650 at the EICMA 2017. Both the motorcycles are expected to go on sale in India soon and will strengthen company’s position in the middleweight bike segment.

The Continental GT 650 and Interceptor 650 will sit above the 535cc engine capacity model in the company’s portfolio of products. These products are to be sold globally and expected to be launched in India by the first quarter of 2018.

The Continental GT 650 was expected to be launched as the Royal Enfield 750cc bike initially. However, now we know that’s not the case. If you were as excited as us regarding this new motorcycle, here are a few details of the Royal Enfield 650cc, which is most likely to satisfy the need of Indians and be a real attraction once in the market. The traditional design of the bike, its thumping engine sound along with its heavy metal body are expected to attract many buyers.

Styling Features

The India-bound model retains the company’s classical designing elements, which is why it has been famous for such a long period. Compared to the previous version, the larger engine model features more chrome finishes over the body with a shorter fuel tank and round headlamps.

The motorcycle will sport alloy wheels with disc brakes. Moreover, an optional ABS is also present to enrich the braking system. To provide a smooth riding experience, it is offered with 110mm telescopic forks at the front-end and twin-coiled shock absorbers at the rear.

The Powertrain

Mechanically, the Continental GT 650 will be powered by a 648 cc, twin-cylinder, air-cooled engine that produces a maximum power output of 47 bhp at 7,100 revolutions per minute and a peak torque of 52 Nm at 4,000 revolutions per minute. The power is transmitted to the wheels by a six-speed manual gearbox. The power and torque of the bike are higher from the previous model by 18 bhp and 8 Nm. The motorcycle claims a top speed of 165 kmph.

Why is it significant?

The middleweight bike segment is a competitive segment, where you will find the likes of Harley Davidson Street 750 and Kawasaki Z650. However, they are priced higher than the Royal Enfield 650 cc bikes. This will be an advantage for the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, as India is price sensitive market and Royal Enfield has a better brand value here.

The Royal Enfield Continental GT 650 is most likely to be priced within a range of Rs. 3 lakh (ex-showroom) to Rs. 3.5 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
