Rotary Instruments and Small-scale Dental Equipment List

by Curry Lee Führende Dentalgeräte und Zahnarzt
Rotary instruments make up those instruments that enable rotation movements at different speeds in order to move a dental bur placed at its end. They must be connected to the hoses of other dental equipment for these kinds of operations, for which there are different couplings depending on the type of connection.

Turbines: A dental turbine is a rotary instrument that is driven by air compression directly through the dental unit's hose via a coupling. Of all the rotary equipment, it has the highest speed but the lowest torque. It is recommended for jobs that require greater resistance to the treatment, for instance, to remove hard tissues from the tooth such as enamel or prosthesis material. In this post, we will tell you all about dental turbines in more details.

Micromotors: Dental Micromotor are used for the treatment of semihard dental tissues. This instrument is connected to the hoses of dental equipment with a variable connection system. Different working speeds and torques are also variable, meanwhile wo different types of instruments can be placed onto the micro motor: straight and contra-angle handpieces. In this post, we have shared all the information that you need to know about micromotors.

Straight Handpieces: These are the lowest speed rotary instruments (between 20,000 and 40,000 rpm) and are not usually used inside the mouth. They are used to refine the prosthesis and are always attached to a micromotor; additionally, these instruments may or may not carry light. In this post we will give you some very useful tips regarding straight handpieces.

Contra-Angle Handpieces: Used to work within the mouth in order to remove decaying material, prepare cavities or crowns, remove fillings, as well as to finish and polish dental and restorative surfaces. They are low speed, high torque instruments.

Before moving on to the next equipment types, let's not forget about the various kinds of couplings needed according to the type of connection. You will find all the information you need regarding this in this post.

Light Curing Dental Lamps: These lamps are used for light curing procedures on dental materials, especially adhesives and composites. They have an ultraviolet light that acts on light-curing materials, causing them to polymerize and harden in a short period of time. A good example of such instruments is the Coltene SPEC3 Spec 3 curing light.

Apex Locators: Apex Locators are endodontic devices that measure the impedance, frequency and resistance of surrounding material in order to locate the working length of the root canal to be treated. For this, we would recommend you the WOODPEX III PRO LCD Apex Locator which offers excellent value for your money.
