Rocket Knight Adventures – A Retro Platformer Video Game
If you were born in 1980’s or 1990’s, you might have played many platformer video games in your life. These games are very addictive and I have spent my childhood vacation playing these games. I am sure many of you might be like me.
Today, I am going to discuss about one such addictive retro platformer video game - Rocket Knight Adventures. This game is developed and published by Konami in 1993 for the Sega Genesis. It was designed by Nobuya Nakazato, who has also designed several titles of the Contra series.

The protagonist of this retro platformer video game is Sparkster, who is an opossum knight, fighting an army of pigs and robots, many of whom are piloting various vehicles. In the game, the player has to run through different levels.
The player is able to jump, attack with the protagonist’s sword, projecting energy over a short distance or charge up a rocket pack and go flying in one of the 8 standard directions, depending on the direction the player presses.
Levels of the game are seldom switched up with alternate styles of gameplay. There is one level in which the player has to control a large machine to duel with Axel Gear, while some other levels are horizontal scrolling shooters similar to Gradius.
In different regional versions of the game, the difficulty levels are presented differently. Both the European and Japanese versions of Rocket Knight Adventures have two difficulty levels accessible via the options menu, while in the American version four difficulty levels are enabled by default.
This retro platformer video game was well received by gamers and critics and later it had a sequel for the Mega Drive, named Sparkster: Rocket Knight Adventures 2. There was a spin-off version for the SNES also, named Sparkster. I am sure if you play this game once, you’ll be addicted to it.
