Review: Toyota's 2016 Land Cruiser SUV remains an AWD legend
Put me in the middle of Death Valley or the Sahara; just be certain you leave me the Land Cruiser keys. That (thankfully unwarranted) final request is because this stalwart of the Toyota(with Car Dvd Player) lineup is built like a tank, has most of the luxury goodies you’d find in the finest Lexus, and has off-road capability to tackle anything you throw at it.
Sand dunes and rocky terrain? No problem.
A busy parking lot at Whole Foods? Are you kidding me?!?
The Land Cruiser has built a reputation of indestructibility that is rarely matched in the automotive world. It’s not flashy and doesn’t pound its chest to make a point. In fact, in many instances, you’d never know how much this Toyota SUV has to offer in terms of luxury touches and AWD prowess.
Sure, Toyota as a car brand is now more synonymous with sensible vehicles like the Camry, Corolla, or Prius hybrid. They’re all very smart buys, they have inoffensive styling, and all of them return good (or excellent) fuel economy. What about install an Android Car Gps?
The Land Cruiser doesn’t possess all of these fine attributes, however. That’s especially true when we’re talking about fuel economy. In city driving or on highways, the Land Cruiser absolutely loves to guzzle gasoline. During my week with it, I rarely saw my average climb above 15 miles per gallon.
I also have to point out that the Land Cruiser is hugely expensive, there’s just no getting around the point. With a starting MSRP of $84,820 (including destination fee), this Toyota commands a price that pits it against a hoard of vehicles from extremely well-known luxury brands. It even competes against other posh Toyota products, including the Lexus LX 570 SUV, which is nothing more than a restyled Land Cruiser that will cost only about $5-grand more at the dealership. If installing an Android Car Stereo in your car, that would be great!
