Making the decision whether to move or not is a life changing decision. Hiring a residential moving company is the smartest thing you would do. Many people fall for the “anything and everything” slogans from the PR that the moving companies use. Although not many moving companies operate with the same level of professionalism, there are specific borders that any residential moving company should not cross.

What should you expect your residential moving company to do?

  • Before the movers arrive at your location, they come one day earlier the assess the situation and prioritise what should go first and last, what is breakable and needs extra care. This will give the right estimate to calculate the cost of your move.
  • House movers are directly responsible for moving your personal possessions from your old home to your new one. They have the responsibility to organise and pack all your boxes and furniture and move them to the transporting vehicle.
  • A good residential moving company will keep a tag on all your items in case anything is lost or damaged. Once everything is checked and loaded onto the moving truck, the movers transported it to your new home.
  • With everything set in place in your home to take your furniture and boxes, the movers arrive and unload start unloading. If you paid the whole package, the movers will unpack everything and stay with you until everything is set in place.
  • At the end, the moving professionals will collect their payment and you will have to sign all the needed documents to confirm that the move went as planned and nothing was damaged or lost during transportation.

What should you expect your residential moving company not do?

  • When movers will come in contact with dangerous items they will refuse to transport them. If they are flammable, hazardous or explosive they are illegal and banned by the Australian moving association.
  • Food and drinks. Movers will transport the refrigerator but they won't do it if there is still food and drinks inside. If you plan to move in longer distance, do not pack stuff like that cause they can spoil others while being in the same box or even in the same truck.
  • Damaged boxes. Many movers, will not accept to move damaged or broken boxes because it can cause damage to the belongings inside.
  • If you want to get best boxes, buy them yourself! It is so simple, go out to the store and pick the ones that you think are the best so all your belongings stay safe and arrive in your new home.
