by DVTPL Web DVTPL

Most of the case of liver transplant is associated with liver failure that is caused by cirrhosis. The cirrhosis of liver can be caused by different types of diseases that could effectively destroy the healthy liver and impair its functioning. It is reported that the patients suffering from liver damage caused by cirrhosis, have a life expectancy of less than one year.

The liver failure can be associated with seronegative hepatitis. In addition to this, some of the drugs like Paracetamol and Isoniazid can cause acute liver failure. Neonatal Hemochromatosis, hepatitis B, and Wilson’s disease can cause acute liver failure. It was reported by some of the researcher that liver failure can be caused by autoimmune hepatitis and Cholestatic disorders. Alcoholic liver disease can also cause liver failure in different candidates across the world.

The liver of individuals can be damaged by budd-chiari syndrome and veno-occlusive disease. Furthermore, it was reported that non alcoholic steatohepatitis can cause the failure of liver of different individuals. Cryptogenic cirrhosis can also cause the failure of liver that requires liver transplantation.  Different types of malignancy like Hepatocellular carcinoma and primary neuro-endocrine tumor are associated with the liver failure. Hemochromatosis and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency can also be considered for causing liver failure in different individuals. Primary Oxalosis and Polycystic liver disease are also associated with liver failures in different individuals.

Liver transplantation is one of the most effective solutions to different types of liver failure that are beyond repair through medications and other treatment. The liver transplantation is one of the solutions of restoring of the normal functioning of liver in individuals suffering from liver failures.  Based on the severity of damage of kidney, the liver failure can be classified into grade A to C. The candidates with liver disease of grade b and c, requires liver transplantation.

The complications such as biliary complications are less than 5% associated with different types of liver transplantation conducted during the survey period. For the success of any liver transplantation, the hospitals should have state-of-the-art infrastructure like Operation theatres and CT scan. In addition to this, multi-specialty hospitals set up ultra-modern Blood Bank, Nephrology (dialysis), and Cardiology department, for the purpose of ensuring successful liver transplantation.

With experience and knowledge of liver transplantation, the Liver Transplant Surgeon has been able to effectively transplant the liver of the donor to the patients suffering from the liver failure.  As per the study conducted on the process of liver transplantation, it was reported that under the supervision of experienced doctors and surgeons, the survival rate of liver transplantation of 85%.  In cases of end stage renal disease, the doctors often consider or perform simultaneous liver- kidney transplant, for the purpose of saving the life of the patients. As per the survey conducted, it is reported that the cases of simultaneous liver- kidney transplant were rare in living donor situations.
