Remove and Recover Password of a Restricted PST File

With the facility to create a password within PST file of MS Outlook, there is always a probability that users might forget the password to open the PST file. That is why, MS Outlook itself has given a solution for this problem. With the scanpst.exe utility provided by Microsoft, you can remove the password from a PST file and end it up accessing all the content of a PST file.

Scanpst.exe is installed as soon as you install Outlook. It is stored in Office folder with the path C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OfficeX. X is the version.

How to remove password of a PST file using scanpst.exe

1.Create a copy of PST file
2.Run scanpst.exe  over the copy of PST file
3.Write file path to pst19up and PST name-pst19upg.exe - x filename.pst  on Command Prompt
4.Command line will result "C:\My Documents\pst19upg.exe" -x outlook.pst and it will create a copy of PST as "filename.psx"
5.Rename original PST file such as filename.old.
6.On command prompt write pst19upg.exe -i filename.psx and enter

Now, it will create a PST file without featuring any password. 

Well, this utility does not work with new versions of Outlook. It only works with PST files created in Outlook version such as Outlook 2002 and older. So, what if you are working with latest Outlook version. Don't worry! There is third party tool like Kernel Outlook Password Recovery. It takes you out of the hurdles of removing password of a PST file. It recovers forgotten password of PST file using high end algorithm.
