Relief Teaching Tips and Advice for Australian Teachers
by Casual Aide Find your next great teachers and schools todaDo you start out as a relief teacher this school year? For some teachers, relief teaching is a convenient and enriching choice, while for others it may be something they have found themselves in need of doing while waiting for their first class.
When you catch yourself without a class at the start of the year and have to take days to relax, don't worry... you're in a great position to grow up as a coach!
I registered with relevant organizations, dropped my curriculum vitae in every possible school and then waited. In Week 2 of Term 1, I got my first day of Relief and was eager to go to classes, but I was also extremely nervous.
The first day of relaxation was productive, busy, full of fun!
I started to enjoy traveling to several schools and meeting new students and teachers while the calls started to happen. At last, I got a contract at the school at which I would be permanent, and I took a grade 1 class in Term 2.
It was an invaluable experience as a relief teacher. I quickly learned that my conduct standards had to be coordinated, think on my feet, and stayed unwavering. As I reflected on my teaching on-time relief, I have come up with certain essentials that I hope will help you to find your time relief as rewarding as I have been:
Be organized:
Many teachers leave a detailed schedule that demonstrates how they want the day to proceed step by step. If so, keep this plan as close as possible. I know relief professors who dismissed the plan and performed their own things, to the irritation of the instructor in the lab. If you don't have a plan, have appropriate age activities with you. Have photocopied and ready to go any sheets or events, so you can enter and begin the day.
Be On Time:
Always be punctual and check in with the office personals to see if you have any plans, duties or additional information left. Ask for the name of the principal or line boss, and if you need any help, who should you contact? Also, take time to learn the class behavioral system or reward charts in the classroom.
