Florida has a huge variety of license plates available for purchase. The standard Florida License plate is of 3 types, as well as specialty and personalized plates, which includes Replacement License plates, registration license plates and specialty license plates. The design currently featured on the Florida license plate includes two Florida oranges with orange blossom and an image of the State of Florida in the background.

Replacement license plates

Florida license plates that are lost, stolen or tampered, can be replaced by filling out and submitting an Application for Replacement License plates. The replacement of license plates will incur a replacement fee. Also, a police report number is required for the replacement of the plates.

Titling and Registration

Registration is compulsory to drive a car in the State of Florida. Without registering your vehicle from the Department of Motor Vehicle, you won’t be able to take your vehicle on the road. Registration is also necessary to obtain Florida License plates for your vehicle. While applying for registration of Florida license plates, you can opt from different titles like “In God We Trust” plates or “Sunshine State” plates.

Specialty plates

Specialty plates in Florida are available in multiple designs and can be ordered in person at motor vehicle service center all across Florida. These plates are classified into several varieties, which include Environmental, Collegiate, Sports, Special Interests, and Military Interests. These specialty plates require a $15 annual fee for each specialty license plates and $5 processing fee in addition to the regular registration fee.

Military service license plates are also available. The applicant are required to provide the proof of eligibility to be submitted along with the application for military service license plates. For military plates, the additional $15 annual fee is not applicable or $5 processing fee and in some cases, even the regular registration fee is reduced. However, some restrictions may apply.

Personalized plates

Both the standard and specialty license plates can be personalized. Personalized license plates in Florida will cost you a manufacturing fee of $28 if you are applying for the first time, along with the other costs, taxes, and fees. License plate renewal may be done with the regular registration after the first year for an additional $15 fee.

Disabled veteran plates

The applicant must have been a resident of Florida for the past 5 years and honorably discharged from the armed services with a service connected 100% disability rating from the Veteran Affairs office.
