A rose is an argument. It proclaims the triumph of beauty over brutality, of gentleness over violence, of the ephemeral over the lasting, and of the universal over the particular. The same rose bursts into bloom on the North Cape and in the Sahara desert.

Nothing is classically as romantic as roses. The red rose began its glorious journey as an important symbol of love in Greek and Roman iconography, where it was linked to Aphrodite, or Venus, the goddess of love. Then, in early Christian times, it became associated with the virtue of Virgin Mary. Later, Shakespeare came and made it a poetic standard with these famous lines:

What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;”

In Victorian Era, flowers began to symbolize different tender emotions and were popularly exchanged between lovers to express secretive messages. Flowers like Tulips, Orchids, Dahlias, Bird of Paradise became commonly exchanged flowers to connote wisdom, beauty, seduction, elegance, refinement and different sentiments. Roses, typically representing love and romance, became a powerful symbol of passion for many cultures in the coming times.

It is quite known that there are no other symbols apart from roses that speak of promising love and great passion.  Till this time, red roses appear in all works of art and literature as an undefeatable token of love. To name a few classics, the poem Red, Red Rose written by renowned Scottish poet, Robert Burns, compared the poet’s love to the red rose. The card “soldiers” in Alice in Wonderland lost their heads for painting white roses red.

This classic flower comes in various other shades like yellow, pink, white, peach, lavender, orange, blue etc. Different colours symbolize different meanings. For example, yellow roses symbolize joy, gladness, friendship while the pink stands for admiration.

Not only this, roses reigning over the flower kingdom, also signify different emotions when exchanged in varied numbers. Whether you send a single rose or an entire bouquet of red beauties, they are always sure to give perfect meaning to your emotions. For example:

1 rose: Utmost devotion to one person

2 roses: Mutual feeling of Love

3 roses: Three words- I Love You

6 roses: I want to be yours

As different flowers became important expressions of emotions that needed to be conveyed, red roses took the forefront as the flower of choice for conveying our deepest feelings.

Therefore, roses speak a lot when words fail to convey emotions. Don’t keep it all in heart! Be it a rose or any other flower, send flowers to Hyderabad, Gurgaon, Noida, Banglore, etc., and give words to them and express the unexpressed!
