Real Power in a Rolls-Royce

The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the most powerful car the company has ever built, as well as being the newest model to hail from the esteemed British luxury marque. It has a sleek, fastback design, which makes it far sleeker than its larger cousin, the Phantom coupe.

In some ways it acts as a competitor to the Bentley Continental GT. But the Wraith is much costlier and arrives with a bunch of features that are not available to the Bentley.

The twin-turbocharged 6.6-liter V-12 engine provides 634 horsepower. That helps the car to accelerate from standstill to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, in spite of its 5,200 pounds of weight.

The Wraith comes with electronically controlled air suspension as well as an eight-speed automatic transmission which relies on satellite data to select the appropriate gear. Buyers will likely not care much, but the combined fuel efficiency is just 15 mpg. And, needless, to say, the Wraith has a preference for premium gasoline, thank you kindly.

But what sets the Wraith apart from every other car on the road, besides the fact that it is a Rolls-Royce, is the traditional upfront which combines so well with the elegant fastback coupe body. Then there’s the luxurious interior, too, which includes the finest and supplest of rich leathers, exotic wood species that are carefully selected, precisely machined detailing, chrome knob, and the Starlight Headliner, which relies on fiber optics to imitate the night sky. It’s all just so, so impressive.

The pricing sets out at $289,000, though with the lavish list of optional extras available, most Wraiths will exit the factory at a far higher price than this. If there’s a fitting or feature you’re set on and it’s not offered as part of the standard list, the company will craft and design it, then install it for you. At a price, of course. And if you must ask what the price is going to be, then the Wraith is not the right automobile for you.

The 2015 model received a long list of little tweaks to both the standard and the optional listing of equipment. One of the best of these is the leather boot lining, which makes for an idyllic home for your classy range of leather luggage.

And the next big thing to arrive will be a convertible model of the Wraith, which was displayed at the 2015 Frankfurt Auto Show. The future Wraith will likely see more power, even though the current Wraith already possesses the strongest engine that the company has made to date.
