FM RDS technology has lead to the introduction of basic radio broadcasting FM signal and many new elements to the signal for carrying RDS data effectively. By the addition of extra elements into the signal that does not interfere with stereo or mono operation, non-RDS receivers can also perform their functions whenever RDS technology remains present on the incoming signal. Today, RDS technology has become a common topic to study in between all individuals related to best engineering colleges in MP and in other regions of India.

Functions Performed by RDS Technology

RDS performs its functions via addition of data towards baseband signal used to modulate various carriers of radio frequency. Baseband signal in this case comprises of varying components. Firstly, candidates of best engineering colleges in MP will be able to find mono audio system comprises of both left and right components transmitted at the range of normal audio frequency equal to 15 KHz.

Amplitude Modulation of Stereo Difference Signal

After this, stereo difference signal undergoes amplitude modulation in the form of double sideband and its suppressed carrier signal at the frequency equal to 38 KHz. In addition, transmission of pilot tone at half of the frequency of subcarrier stereo difference signal or 19 KHz takes place to allow receiver demodulator in redesigning of 38 KHz subcarrier and thereby, to allow decoding of stereo difference signal.

Stereo Difference Signal Does not Cause Distraction

Stereo difference signal remains above the range of audio hearing and does not cause any distraction from regular mono signal. Whenever an individual chooses to include anything new to the already existing transmission, it is essential to maintain compatibility with already existing radios.

RDS Information and Stereo Difference

RDS information remains placed at the frequency range of 57 KHz subscriber i.e. over the stereo difference signal. This leads to about three times of the actual value of stereo pilot tone frequency. In case of these transmissions, subcarrier of RDS remains locked within the pilot tone. Individuals associated with best engineering colleges in MP and other Indian regions should know that the RDS subscriber either remains in same phase with third type of harmonic present tone or shows similar results as that of BBC in its respective quadrature.

Phase Modulation of Actual Subcarrier

Actual subscriber device that takes the responsibility of carrying information undergoes phase modulation process for carrying of data. This type of signal uses QPSK or Quadrature Phase Shift Keying to offer high value of immunity to large numbers of data errors caused due to noise while at the same time, allows transmission of data at the most suitable rate. Hence, based on operation of subcarrier signal at the harmonic level of pilot tone, one can expect minimum interference possibilities to various audio signals.
