Lord Rama was born during Madhyahna time period which is the middle time of the Hindu day. Madhyahna period (approximately 2:24 p.m.) is the most auspicious time to perform Puja ceremony of Rama Navami . Rama Navami which is one of the most important Hindu festivals, falls on the Navami Tithi during the Shukla Paksha of the Hindu month of Chaitra. Therefore, it is also known as Chaitra Masa Shukla Paksha Navami, and marks the conclusion of the nine-day Chaitra Navaratri or Vasanta Navaratri celebrations.
Devotees come to Ayodhya from all over India. They take a holy dip into river Sarayu and then visit Rama temple to participate in the celebrations. Rathayatras and Shobha yatras of Lord Rama, Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshmana and Lord Hanuman are organized at several places, including Ayodhya. Many devotees observe vrat (fasting) on this day. The fasting is followed by feasting in the evening (at the end of the celebrations).
