Rama Navami fasting

by Astro Ved Online Astrology Consultation

Ram Navami is a Hindu festival that is celebrated in almost every part of India, especially the northern part of the country. Rama is believed to be the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, who was brought to Earth to restore the balance of nature and restore the faith of humanity in God.

Lord Rama was born to King Dashrath, the rule of Ayodhya. He was the son of Queen Kaushalya and the elder brother of Bharath, Lakshman, and Shatrughan. Since he was the first son of Dashrath, he was also assigned as the new King of Ayodhya after his father, Dashrath.

He was also called “Maryada Purshottam” due to being the perfect human and an ideal son. He was always an honorable husband and father while being a role model to his brothers. Lord Rama was always worshipped by the people of Ayodhya, and Ramayana was written, which depicts the life story of Rama.

Many temples are built for the Lord in which Rama Navami is celebrated in this age. People to begin the celebration wake up early and wear clean clothes. Some people also go to any sacred river and have a holy bath in it. Taking a dip in such rivers blesses the devotee with good karma.

People then visit the temple of Lord Rama or Vishnu and submit their prayers. They chant his name and listen to the sacred texts. This purifies one’s soul and body which inspires him to live a Sattvic life and feel God close to him. In the country, a large amount of crowd can be seen in every Rama temple. Since Ayodhya is the birthplace of Rama, people from different corners of the country visit the place and witness his place of living.

Celebrations happen on a grand level. People also witness the majestic Rama Setu, which is situated in Rameswaram Island. This Setu is believed to be the bridge that Hanuman built to find a track to Lanka, the Nagari of Ravana. The myth says that it was impossible to build any bridge using stones. However, when Hanuman started writing the name of Lord Rama on the stones, they didn’t sink in the water. All the army of Rama then stepped onto these stones and reached Lanka to help Rama in killing Ravana.

Ram Navami Fasting

Observing fast on Rama Navami has its significance. Fasting is a way to pay respect to Lord Rama and remember him. Many devotees follow a strict pattern while observing the fast. These people don’t consume anything before breaking the fast in the evening.

Some of the devotees consume only fruits and milk once during fasting; eating salt is prohibited during the observation. However, one should only observe the fast if the health permits; otherwise, he should visit the temple and participate in activities or the Lord; fasting is not a compulsion to receive the blessings of the Lord.

The devotees can also observe the fast from the night after 12 am. After taking a bath and visiting the temple in the day, they should chant the Rama’s name or his mantra on a Jaap mala. Visualize the image of the Lord in mind and cleanse yourself with the vibrations of his name.

Some devotees also observe the fast till afternoon, and some carry it till the night. Devotees even fast for nine days during which they only consume fruits and milk once a day. Some people also consume a full meal once a day and then eat nothing for the rest of the time. People can also consume curd, vrat-friendly foods, tea, and water.

Staunch devotees observe the fast without even consuming a drop of water. They only drink and eat anything after breaking their fast at midnight.

Significance of Ram Navami Fasting

Fasting is an effective way to connect to God and remember the almighty. It is a way to exercise control on our minds when even after being hungry, we manage to chant the name of God. When you fast, you achieve a higher state of consciousness and operate from a higher frequency.

When a person prays for something while being in a higher state of mind, his prayers reach the universe easily, and he gets the answer. Also, fasting is a way to cleanse our body and give it some rest from the digestion process.

Fasting on Rama Navami blesses the people with mental clearance, happiness, good health, wealth, and success.
