Rain Gutter and its Types

Rain gutters and downspout are an essential part of the
roofing system which captures water and redirects it some other location. Three
best ways to go about the whereabouts of directing water is:
· One is to store the water in a catchment area
also known as tank and re-use it later for future purposes and this process is known as rainwater harvesting.
·
Another is to take the water at least five feet
underneath the surface of the ground and four feet away from the house which
will help the plantation
·
Last is to re-direct the water underneath the
surface in the front yard or backyard. This is done mostly when the side yard
is small
The rain water can damage the house over the years. In fact, damage caused by water in the United States is more than the damage caused by fire, earthquake, tornados and hurricanes etc. So, sinking rain gutter and downspouts are important in protecting the house. Damages can be in the roofing, paint, foundation of the home, soil erosion etc.
Types of Gutters:
There are different types of gutters and their filter that
can be used are:
Reverse curve- These
types of gutters are almost hundred years old. They rely on the surface tension
of water i.e. that the water will flow along the surface of the roof and fall
into the gutter whereas the debris and leaves will fall ahead which generally
doesn’t happen. They have a large opening at the front and doesn't guard
against the pine needles and small debris.
Mesh- Also known
as fine-mesh or micro-mesh, this consists of a small mesh on the top of the
gutter which helps in keeping the leaves and debris away. The mesh is small to
the size of 50 microns which helps in keeping away the sand as well. Compared
to other gutter types, its performance is very high and so is the cost.
Bottle Brush- They
are also a different type of guard. It is simplest and the cheapest type of
guard which costs nearly 3-5 $ per foot. The brush is inserted into the gutter
and it acts as a barrier blocking the leaves and the bristles of the brush face
upwards which collects or holds the leaves.
Nylon- Nylon is a
thermoplastic which has small pores and is extremely durable in a long run. On
the plus side it isn’t that expensive as well. Installing it can be a tough
task since it’s really light in weight it is important that it is fixed with
glue and adhesives.
Rain handler Gutter- They
are the non-gutter covers and it replaces conventional cover mainly for their
ability to clean themselves. It consists of aluminum louver, its self-cleaning
dispersal system eliminates clogging, over-flowing gutters and downspouts. It
was designed and invented by an MIT aeronautical engineer, it is expensive.
Foam type- It is
very similar to the nylon type and readily available filter, fits in every size and it has a long durability.
With all the different types of gutter available, you might wonder which one is the best. Well, all have their perks and loss; choose the best according to your requirement and budget.
