PVC fitting Dimensions

Before starting a plumbing project, it is necessary to understand the type of Pvc pipe. Pvc pipes are available in different varieties having different flexibility and temperature resistance. Pvc pipes have range of diameter with 3/8 to 24 inches. The thickness of pipe’s inner wall is termed as ‘Schedule’. PVC pipes have range of schedule from 20 to 80.

Cpvc pipes are used for high temperature applications. They are known as hot water pipes. Schedule 20 pipes are also termed as least rigid pipes. They are mostly used in low pressure applications such as sanitary drainage irrigation systems and such projects in which flexibility is more important than structural length.

Half inch pvc pipes are also famous for their flexibility features. But they have strength issues. ¾ inch pvc pipes are bendable and they comes back in original shape when they are bent.  In such plumbing projects in which stiffness and strength are the desired parameters, large diameter pipes should are preferred.

Schedule 40 pipes are used for residential and commercial water applications. These pipes can withstand up to 70 degrees. They are used for rigid construction projects.

Schedule 80 is the heaviest standard pvc pipe pipes. They are used for rigid frameworks. They are designed for underground electrical applications.

1 inch PVC pipes are rigid but flexible. ¼ inch pvc pipes are suitable for lightweight projects. They are used for building strong platforms like tables, walls and shelves. 1-1/2 inch pvc pipes are heavy and rigid and are difficult to work with.

2inch plumbing grade pipes are strong and hold weight without bending. They are heavy and expensive.  2inch pipes are ideal for good foundation areas.

Mostly ¾ inch or 1-1/4 inch pipes are good for all general applications. ¾ inch pipes are considered good for flexibility.1-1/4 pipes are good for rigid applications.

Rigid and flexible PVC pipe fittings have many similarities and differences. These both pipes have same chemical composition. They are glued and cut using the same tools, solvents and equipments. They both are joined using same PVC pipe fittings.

Connectors are fitted over the ends of the pipes for making longer pipes. Connectors are divided into two categories which are 2 sided connectors, 3 sided connectors and so on.

Two sided connector is basically a sleeve which makes one longer pipe. Tees are also kind of PVC fittings which are used for joining different connections.
