Water purifier can help you get pure, healthy and clean drinking water in your home. However, there may be certain problems that arise in the course of time. Therefore, it is essential to learn some basic tips on how to handle water purifiers and use them properly. We have compiled a list of some common problems that occur in everyday life, along with their solutions so that you can easily identify them and get your water purifier repaired.

If you own a water purifier that has RO and UV features, then you may have some problems with it. These types of water purifiers are commonly found in many homes, so chances are you may have a problem or two with yours. However, we have tried to give you ideas on how to solve the most common issues with these types of water purifier systems.

1.      Unusual Water Taste

If you find that your purifier is not giving you the same taste and quality of water, it could be because of biofilm. A biofilm is a layer of organic and inorganic material, which has accumulated on one or more parts of your water purifier. This may lead to the increase in the levels of contaminants in your water. You can change filters as well as membranes if there is a decrease in the taste or odor of water.

The RO water purifier uses copper tubing in its mechanism. If you notice that the water has a metallic taste, it means the water may have dissolved a high amount of sulfate, chloride and bicarbonates from the copper tubing, leaving a metallic taste in the water. Similarly, if you find the water from the purifier to be slightly salty, it means the salt and other solids have dissolved in the water. The RO purifier needs to be fully functional to eliminate these particles from the water.

2.      Water Leakage

Water leakage is one of the most common problems with RO water purifier systems. It may be because of loose connections between the pipes, which results in water leakage. You must ensure all the connector is properly in place and if you see any drips or leaks, call a professional.

3.      Auto Shut-Off Failure

The auto shut-off feature of a water purifier is particularly important to ensure safety of the RO machine. A faulty auto shut-off feature may result in liquid overflow from the water storage tank. Therefore, it is advisable to repair the auto shut-off system as soon as possible for safe operation.

4.      Low Water Flow

It's a common problem with purifiers that the flow of water decreases over time. This happens because the impurities in the water build up on and block the filter surface, thereby restricting its ability to filter out impurities.

5.      Excess Amount of Reject Water

RO water purifier is one of the best water treatment systems available today, providing safe drinking water from sea water, mineral water and even raw water. But it does not provide a complete solution as all RO purifier produce reject or waste water with dissolved solids. TDS concentration and salt that is present in the water are the reason behind this.

6.      Noise In RO Purifier

Vibrations and noise from water purifiers is considered a common problem and in most cases it does not lead to any serious damage. A lot of vibrations are caused due to loose connecting pipes, loose wires or vibrations caused by improper installation process. This can be easily avoided by tightening the seal of pipes, plastic covers and rubber seals that attach the connecting wires of filters.

The RO membrane is used in water purifiers to offer clean and safe drinking water. A damaged RO membrane can result in the slow flow of water from the purifier and thus, a slower water filtration process. If this happens, one should have the membrane replaced so that only safe and clean drinking water is produced. RO membrane is the part that connects the source water pipe and drain pipe. It filters water through a semipermeable membrane to separate out minerals and pollutants. When you need to replace the RO membrane, remember to clean the filter housing. If the replacement RO membrane has been placed in, but the water tank is not filling up with clean water even after running for hours, then there might be a problem with your water purifier.
