Preparing for the Face Paint Season
The winter often is the slow season for many clowns and face painters, after the holidays budgets become tight and bookings often slow down. Take this opportunity to reorganize your supplies and give the paint kit a thorough cleaning! This is also the best time to re order supplies so you are ready to go for the up coming busy season.
It’s a great idea to wash out the paint kit getting everything sterilized, this makes things look nice and helps prevent spreading germs. If you don’t have a nice face paint carrying case, why not take the time to shop for one now, there are a variety of options in make up and face paint cases from small and simple hand held kits to very elaborate rolling cases. A good sturdy case helps keep your supplies and equipment safe and in order, not to mention this presents a more professional look when arriving at your gig. It’s not a good idea to shop up with your gear in grocery bags and the shipping boxes your paints came in. I have actually seen this first hand, and it’s not very professional.
As you are cleaning, it’s easy to see what is running low and needs to be restocked,
a perfect time to shop for bargains from your face paint supplier. Also make sure to inspect your brushes to see if any are getting old and need replacing. Having your own chairs and a table are important items for the professional artist; this insures the workspace is ample and comfortable for you. What about the new brushstroke methods you wanted to learn or the one face paint all the kids bugged you for last season that you regrettably did not know how to do. This is an excellent opportunity to try new methods and learn some new face paint designs; sometimes it is difficult to do this in the heart of the busy season. There are so many books, videos and on line tutorials to invest in so you will be more than prepared for the busy season.
How is your advertisement? Do you have business cards, flyers and a price list? What about good, up to date photos of your work? Good literature is as important to your business as your face painting skills. It is an excellent idea to have photos of your work with the corresponding fees posted for the folks in line to view while they wait their turn. This is easily done with poster board and some nice digital prints, I also suggest an easel to hold the board so it doesn’t blow away in outdoor venues.
