Pregnancy and work: How to handle it like a boss

by Dorano V. Professional PR since 2010

Pregnancy is a full-time job in itself as a lot of energy is consumed in catering to the nutritional needs of the baby. Pregnancy is also exhaustive as the miracle of birth starts from pregnancy and this miracle puts a lot of pressure on women’s bodies. Rest is a woman’s best friend during pregnancy but for working women that might not be the best scenario.

Pregnancy and work

Working women thus have to work two jobs when they are pregnant and that can quickly become fatiguing if special care is not taken. In this article, we are listing down some tips that can help you work successfully while being pregnant and also glow while doing it. Here is how you can handle pregnancy like a boss.

1.Talk to your boss

The first thing that you need to do is seek peace of mind. Getting pregnant while working can be a little discomforting for your employer and this idea can create a lot of panic in your head too. It is thus important that you inform your boss first and foremost. When you receive a confirmation report from your gynecologist, we suggest you inform the employer through the HR.

Avoid telling other colleagues before you tell your boss as it is likely that the gossip would reach him/her before you do which can make him/her more uncomfortable and worried about this situation. Talk to your boss calmly and assure him/her that you will be working at your full capacity and that your pregnancy will not be getting in the way of any work at least before you go on maternity leave.

2.Wear comfortable clothes

Corporate world can be a little vicious when it comes to dressing as high heels and tight suits have become the general trend. You should however desert this trends as soon as you get pregnant since it is very important that you are comfortable.

Otherwise you will not be able to be truly productive which will impact your performance and your employers will start to see your pregnancy as a weak spot for you. You should thus opt for loose clothing and wear shoes which are absolutely comfortable.

3. Stack up on snacks

If you have gotten pregnant for the first time, you would be surprised to see how much your hunger increases as the time passes. You should thus be ready in order to avoid any food-triggered mood swings at work. The best way to do this is to stack up your drawer at work with snacks which are healthy. Go for some natural snacks and avoid the sugary and highly processed ones.

4. Pack your lunch

Nutrition is one of the most important issues when you are pregnant. You cannot be neglectful as nutritional deficiencies of the mother can lead to abnormalities in the newborn babies. It is thus important that you get a proper diet plan from or take basic advice from your gynecologist, and stick to it even at work which will only be possible if you pack your lunch. The canteen food is often greasy and can cause acidity.

If you follow these tips, there is no reason that you should feel any kind of difficulty at work even if you are in your last trimester.
