Practical Energy Saving Tips

by GDY Airtech Enterprises Consultant
Last 2017, the Department of Energy announced that there was a significant increase in power consumption in the Philippines: 3.93%.

This is despite the frequent power outages that happened all over the country which were caused by natural calamities like earthquakes and typhoons. But technical problems have also been a factor.

In 2018, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines expected an increase of up to 5.04%.

It is important for Filipinos to make sure that their heating and air conditioning systems are energy-efficient in to avoid paying high bills.

Here are some helpful tips you can apply to your homes and buildings:

Use Programmable Thermostat

One of the most cost-effective ways to save energy is to install a programmable thermostat. Cooling (and heating) can cost up to 35%-45% of a building’s energy costs. A programmable thermostat is designed to adjust the temperature depending on the programmed settings.

Just important reminder: in order to make the most out of programmable thermostat, it must be used correctly.

Maintain Your HVAC System

Always keep your HVAC air conditioning in top-notch condition by having  regular maintenance work done. You can start by religiously cleaning your filter once every 3 months to keep cool airflow circulating inside the building.

Seal Duct Leaks

As part of your HVAC maintenance, also check the ducts that move your air around the rooms and make sure that there are no leaks. Leaks can cause up to 20% decrease in efficiency. Avoid leaving doors and windows open as to not waste the cool air.

Plant Trees

Did you know that the sun’s radiation makes your air conditioner work harder? Trees are effective in blocking the sun’s rays and heat and can save you up to 35% in energy costs.

There you have it! These are just a few but important tips you can apply immediately in your household or office.
