There are many popular traditions associated with wedding cakes. With time, some of them have even been modified slightly to suit the requirements of modern couples. Read the article to know about a handful of them.

The sweetest element of any marriage ceremony is undoubtedly the wedding cake. Although many people may think of it as nothing more than a delicacy made with flour and sugar, there is much more to conventional wedding cakes than that. Nowadays, they can be customised conveniently with frosting, flowers, fondant, fruits and so many other things.

In fact, conventional cake themes can be anything from vintage-inspired to uber modern. Popular embellishments include a wide range of options from floral arrangements to crystals. Decorations can even be stylised as per a bridal gown, the practice of which dates back to the Victorian era, when white frostings symbolised purity.

And when it comes to size and shape wedding cakes can be made in any size, form or shape, such as rectangular, circular or even triangular. Nowadays, brides can even choose miniature cupcakes or six-tiered masterpieces. If height is to be achieved without price, there are also such options as fake tiers.

Now let’s have a look at some of the popular traditions associated with wedding cakes.

Toppers
Earlier, it was only small models resembling the bride and the groom that used to be placed on the top tier. Nowadays, however, couples get more personal while choosing toppers for wedding cakes in Brisbane. Some toppers feature the bride and the groom in comical scenes, such as the couple engaging in mutual hobby or the bride dragging the groom to an altar and so on.

Eating the Sweet Stuff
After the cake has been cut by the couple, they are expected to feed one another from the initial slice. This tradition symbolises mutual commitment between the bride and the groom for being with each other till eternity.

Smashing
Right after the couple have fed each other from the first slice, comes the popular tradition of smashing cake into one another’s faces. It can be very much fun if done not too wildly, just that both partners will have to make sure they do not get each other mad while executing this mandatory tradition.

Preserving The Top Tier
This tradition is a beautiful one. It is kept in the freezer until its frosting becomes hard. The top tier is then preserved by refrigeration after being wrapped in several layers of plastic. At the end of one year, the cake is reopened to celebrate the first anniversary of the married couple. However, a lot of couple are even ordering a duplicate cake like that of their wedding to celebrate their first anniversary nowadays.
