Photographic studio

by Wayto Singh waytosingh
A photographic studio is a place for expert photographers where they take, develop and print photo films or digital media. Often, it is used as a place for clients to have their portraits taken competently, often with an available selection of props, backgrounds and costuming. Photographic studios have a retail space where the clients buy specific services. These services can include precise human relations as well as use of the facilities. Before photography, the way to get a portrait was to hire a skilled artist. This is a highly skilled profession, and a picture could take weeks or months of long sittings. On the other hand, photography takes a few minutes to get it done.

Photography has been in use by very many artists from way back. Many artists used photos as a centre for paintings. The initiative of photography and fashion developed with many women photographers. Commercial revolution happened between 1851 and 1884 so did the photo quality revolution. Louis Daguerre made studio photography possible with Daguerrreotype and licensed to photographers in America and Europe. By 1850 daguerreotypists from America had their production in excess and there were less daguerreotype galleries England than in New York. In a way, Daguerreo type studio over time led to the commencement of photography studio. As it is today, it was comparatively cheap business to start with a high turnover.

By 1870’s, a new innovation came up called the gelatine dry plate. Chemicals were no longer needed as plates could be taken out, exposed and taken back to a dark room for processing later. Cameras now became more portable and their mechanisms were also going through a revolution. In this time, Muybridge perfected the dry plate processing of images and rigged the cameras.

The final revolution took place in 1800, when George Eastman came up with the idea of changing the preprocessed plate into rolls of sheets that were scaled on a roll holder in the camera. In every post exposure, the roll would be dispatched by a unique key, and after the roll was exposed, the camera was brought back to his place for development. This camera was known as the Kodak Camera.
