Pest Inspection and Removal Tips for a Safer Home

by Askan Architect Architect
Nobody wants those unwanted intruders in their house that breeds on your food and water, causes health risks to your family and eats away your wood and vegetation. Using chemicals to poison them sounds one of the most convenient solutions but the chemicals that are toxic to these bugs can also be harmful for you and your family. Here are 4 tips to get rid of these insects and pests with some preventive strategies:

Keep your house clean: Most insects and pests are attracted to food and water. Make sure you dispose the garbage away from the house everyday and do not leave food items open and uncovered. Keep your floors, bathrooms and kitchens clean, avoid stagnation of standing water and wash dishes daily to avoid attracting pests and insects. Moreover, if you have a pet at home make sure that you keep everything that is in contact with your pet clean and do not forget to comb your pet regularly with a flea comb.

Block the entryways: Seal all the cracks and crevices in cupboards, toilets, sinks, electric outlets and pipes to prevent the entry of the pests. Make sure that there are screens in front of your heating and cooling vent and that all holes on the screen are repaired. Apart from this, any kind of vegetation and firewood should be kept slightly away from the house to prevent the potential entry of these invaders.

Non-chemical strategies: There are several effective strategies for those who do not want to use chemicals to get rid of the pests and insects. You can vacuum, lay traps or use swatter and do away with the bugs without using any chemical pesticide. Moreover, when you stop feeding them and offering shelter to them they will automatically stop breeding in your house.

Use of pesticides: You can also use low risk pesticides like boric acid that gradually kills the insects and pests but is less harmful to humans. You can also use insecticidal soaps that can poison the insects when brought in contact with them but is not toxic for humans until consumed.

If you are using strong chemicals make sure not to exceed the recommended amount. Don’t forget to wear gloves and masks whenever required while spraying the pesticides and follow all the instructions on the packaging carefully. It is recommended to hire a professional pest management company to get rid of all pest issues.
