Paytm to come up with Separate Apps for Shopping and Payments

Paytm already has over 100 million users registered with its online wallet service. Apart from payments, Paytm is increasing its services in the eCommerce sector. Started over an year ago, the eCommerce sector of Paytm contributes 40% of the company's revenue, which is expected to rise to 60% in the next one year. Its current app will focus only on shopping while it will launch a new app in January that will take care of only payments. Till January, the current app will continue to offer the wallet option and meanwhile, prompt users to download the independent app for payments.

Paytm founder, Vijay Shekhar Sharma said, "Paytm is the default payments app for many and its use case needs to be simplified even as we as a company expand our horizon by adding commerce. By this method, we can make both users happy. Paytm's increasing commerce business that includes goods, bus tickets, hotel bookings and more, have made the app heavy and the co-existence with payments has complicated the payments use case."
