It all started with John Hussey’s comment “Can you tell me why we’re stopping the game?” was overheard through his open mike. The call was on Vikings running back Dalvin Cook. Although he had been quite impressive carrying 20 times for 154 yards and a touchdown. But all his efforts were in vain after the call was made.

Quarterback Kirk Cousins had thrown a 3-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs. It was 1 minute, 8 seconds to the second quarter. It was pretty obvious that he had the ball and had crossed the goal line.

But NFL’s senior vice president Alberto Riveron had spotted an infraction. Though for most of the game nobody knew what had gone down to receive a penalty. It was only after the game that Riveron had explained. They said it was clear and obvious that Dalvin Cook No.33 intentionally stopped his opponent safety Darnell Savage while the ball was still in the air. For this reason they called for offensive pass interference with a 10 yards penalty. Cheer on your favorite team so they don’t have to face another loss. The penalty had Viking tailing behind Packers 21-10 while they would have cut their lead by seven. The second call was no better. While Diggs’ catch had them in Packers territory, the missed the chance once again.

The impact was greater on the Viking player than expected. Cousins was awful for the rest of the game completing 14 of 32 passes for 230 yards, a touchdown, and a 52.9 passer rating. Not to mention Diggs’ obvious display of frustration in the third quarter. After finding the end zone he took off his helmet and cursed, earning him a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Though the reaction was justifiable, anybody would feel upset at getting called for 3 times in one game.

This game was the most awkward in the history of NFL. And from the looks of the new rule there will be more. For more Viking games, get Minnesota Vikings Season Tickets now!

Diggs felt they were emphasizing the whole offensive pass interference thing a bit too much. He personally conversed with the officials and was told not to close fist, use shoulder or extend arm.

Not that the game was going any better from the start. Thanks to Minnesota’s defense for giving up 21 points early on in the game.

Vikings coach, Mike Zimmer also had a conversation with the officials after the game. According to him, it went smoothly, he was ok with the calls for the most part. But couldn’t help complain about some things. He said he would like to see consistency in the calls. What he meant was he saw some offensive pass interferences in the game that they missed. He says if they are doing this they ought to be more diligent.
