You must have heard elders of your family often talking about Pitra Dosha and its remedies. Let us see what causes pitra dosh and what can be done to correct it. If we go by the Vedic astrology, the ninth house in the natal chart is the house of fortunes or the house of father and manes. Manes are known as Pitra in Hindi. Pitra are those people who died unnatural death and did not get salvation.

A conjugation of Sun and Rahu in this house forms the pitra dosha or pitru dosh, which is known to remove auspiciousness from the house. This dosha is also formed if a family member dies unnatural death or if people do not offer their respects to the souls of their deceased loved ones. As per most of the Vedic seers, this yoga is formed according to the sins of previous birth. It is known to bring all sorts of sorrows in the life of an individual like a money loss, household conflicts and inability to get a child or professional difficulties. So, it is always considered wise to pay respects to one’s ancestors before the worship of the God and then proceed with all other work in order to avoid this dosh.

People perform pind daan and worship a Peepal tree to remove pitra dosh. Vedic astrologers often recommend pitra sukt puja on a no moon day and chaturdashi of every month to people who want to get rid of this dosh. Similarly, people are suggested to recite Gayatri Mantra during sunrise as sun helps reduce the impact of pitra dosh.

In order to pacify the souls of the departed, pitra dosh nivaran puja is performed wherein mantra jaap is done and Brahmins are fed. People also donate clothes and money to Brahmins and feed cows, dogs, crow and beggars to appease to an individual's manes. All this is done to seek the blessings of ancestors and lead finally lead a happy and peaceful worldly life. Krishna Paksha of the Ashwini month as per Hindu calendar is the best duration for the pacification of manes. It usually starts in the last week of September and gets finished on the day of Amavasya. People who don’t know the date of death of their manes perform all such activities for pacification of their manes on the day of Amavasya.

To conclude, Vedic astrology has answers to all our life questions. So, follow it and make your past, present and future happy.
