Organizing Your California Outdoor Wedding

by Mark Holland Foothill Sanitary

California is one of the most beautiful places to call home. It is also a terrific landscape for couples to tie the knot. After you get engaged, the focus shifts to wedding planning 24/7. For those that are bold, and looking to take their wedding festivities outside, an outdoor wedding offers a more unique, and romantic setting than most banquet halls. There are hundreds of locations across the state to choose from those feature photo opportunities that will capture the moments just before and after the ceremony.

Before you jump straight to the day of, you will need to start the planning process. An outdoor event typically has more features to select, more vendors you’ll need to use, and can be a more complicated process. However, it is well worth the effort to throw a bash outside versus inside, which is why so many couples choose this route.

After you have selected the location, which is the most significant feature, and one you’ll want to book early, its time to move on to the little things that will pull the whole event together. The top two, likely overlooked features of an outdoor reception are having restrooms and a pavilion available. We can’t always predict the weather, and having shelter for those just in case moments, or an area to dine for all your guests is crucial. When it comes to restrooms, not every outdoor location comes equipped with a toilet on-site. Foothill Portable Toilets will be a valuable asset to those that need restrooms at their site, where there aren’t any. They offer affordable rental options that are perfect for events such as weddings and handle the delivery and setup for you.

Another feature to consider is the lighting. Outdoor locations aren’t always equipped with the best light, and if you have a 6 or 7 p.m. reception, it could be dark by the time everyone starts to leave. Consider the lighting of your area, as well as the parking to make sure everyone can safely leave the site or find items if something were to happen like keys go missing. It’s always best to be prepared.

If the planning process feels a little overwhelming having the assistance of an event planner can make a world of difference. Not only do you need to organize the music, catering, flowers, and apparel, but you’ll also need to stick to paying the vendors on time. An event planner keeps you on track, alerts you to when things are due and will keep the event moving forward on-time.
