Organizing Ideas for Your Kids’ Bedroom that Grow
How many moms lose their composure (and their minds)
when it comes to their kids’ clutters? Whether you like it or not, it is
as normal as it gets, and it will indefinitely be like that depending on how
soon you can get them organizing. Research shows that your child’s behavior is
more or less set by age three; that includes organizational behavior. If you
want them to grow up with organizational skills, start early. Start with their
own space: their bedroom.
Look at the brighter side of life: nobody wants
clutter. Perhaps even your kids don’t like them. With that as a motivator, show
them how to smartly de-clutter by providing them furniture, organizers and
other storage solutions that they can use through their childhood and even
beyond. Here are some organizing ideas for your kids’ bedroom that can
help them to keep their own space spick and span:
Choose a bookshelf that can display their
treasures. Your kids will accumulate stuff as they grow up. It makes sense to
put a sturdy shelf in their room that can go through the transitions and the
years in between. Pick a display shelf that can evolve from a toddler to
preschool and pre-teen, and perhaps even into a big girl’s or big boy’s
furniture. A shelf can be a repository of their cherished possessions that they
want to keep through the years. The look and appeal of a functional shelf can
grow and evolve with them and their changing interests.
Provide them a cabinet that fits their age
and adjusts as they grow. If you want your kids to learn organizing, look at
their space from their vantage point. Organizers designed for adults can’t do
the trick. To get your kids clothes organized, it is best if you can modify
their closet so that they can access it, put things in there, and take stuff
easily without disarranging the things inside. You can remove closet doors, put
down clothing rods to their reachable level, and invest in child-sized hangers
that they can deftly use to hang their own clothes. Use the upper areas for
stuff they still doesn’t need, but which becomes accessible as they grow taller
and older.
Get creative with storage. The list of
options is endless. With creativity, even inexpensive containers and flea
market finds can look great and handy in your kids’ room. Find perfect storage
solutions that fit the personality of your child/children and the room. A toy
chest can be repurposed to become a table and storage for extra beddings.
Hanging organizers, baskets, drawers, and metal or wooden boxes in cute,
eye-popping, colors can hold all sorts of stuff and toys. Label and use them to
keep chaos and clutter to a minimum.
Make small spaces look and feel bigger. You can do this by taking advantage of every inch of space in the room including the corners and the back of the door. Kick these dead spaces into life by putting additional L-shaped or built-in shelving or seats that has storage solutions underneath. Regardless of age, everyone needs storage. The back of the door is a wasted space that can be salvaged by hanging there an over-the-door shoe organizer or a similar idea for a lot of different stuff.
Just like any bedroom, your children’s bedroom needs constant purging to keep it free from clutter and unwanted stuff that seems to continually grow. Get your kid involved. This way, you will not just be teaching them organizational skills, but the virtue of being selfless as they share their toys with charity.
