Oppo Find X2 Neo smartphone: a more affordable and equally attractive X2 Pro

by sudheer k. blogger
Oppo had more than one trick up its sleeve in the first half of 2020. After a very premium Find X2 Pro, the firm has formalized the release of two new terminals, the Find X2 Lite and Find X2 Neo. The latter, the more advanced of the two, offers a 6.5-inch Amoled screen (90 Hz) in 2,400 x 1,080 px resolution (402 ppi). There is also a Snapdragon 765G 5G SoC, 12 GB of RAM and an internal storage of 256 GB. On the photo side, the phone offers a main module of 48 Mpx, an ultra wide-angle of 8 Mpx, a telephoto lens of 13 Mpx which allows 2x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom, and a 2 MP monochrome lens. It has a 4,025 mAh battery and offers VOOC 4.0 30 W fast charging. A premium technology sheet, but somewhat lightened, which allows the Oppo Find X2 Neo to display

Ergonomics and design
Despite a very imposing format, the design of the Find X2 Pro made a strong impression during its test, with its ceramic or imitation leather back, depending on the version. The Find X2 Neo is slightly more classic, with a frosted glass back that displays a gradient of colors. This gradient is taken up on the strapping of the phone, this time in aluminum. A slightly divisive look, but one that smells of premium and leaves a positive impression. The mobile is also very pleasant in hand, with good grip on the back, and it is also particularly light with its 171 grams; nothing to do with the 217 grams of the X2 Pro in its ceramic version.

Overall, the dimensions are reduced (159.4 x 72.4 x 7.7 mm against 165.2 x 74.4 x 8.8 mm for the Pro model), which is felt when taken in hand . The strapping of the phone includes a thin ignition button falling under the thumb of the right hand, while volume buttons are located on the left. Note also the presence of stereo speakers, very practical for viewing videos without headphones. They are powerful and fair enough in terms of sound rendering.

At the front, the screen meets our expectations thanks to an occupation of almost 90% of the facade. The front camera is housed in a punch located on the left, at the top of the terminal. The edges of the screen are also curved to once again facilitate handling.

On the connection side, the phone has a USB-C 3.1 port, and you will notice that its SIM trolley does not have a dual SIM or microSD slot. Pity. Neo also does not offer IP68 certification and therefore no water resistance. We will have to be careful. A word on the fingerprint reader, which takes place under the screen and is frankly fast and efficient.

Screen
Like the X2 Pro before it, the X2 Neo offers an Amoled panel which provides infinite contrast. On some points, this screen also seems a bit better calibrated than that of its predecessor, since there is a delta E of 1.7 which is among the best. The maximum brightness points to 484 cd / m², which is a little better, but far from excellence, since a Xiaomi Mi 10 gets more than 800 cd / m² in this exercise. The minimum brightness is 2.6 cd / m², which is very good, but not optimal for viewing in the dark. The tactile delay is only 52 ms, while the rate of reflections level off at 46%.This screen does not include all the characteristics of that of the X2 Pro since it is necessary here to “settle” for a refresh rate of 90 Hz and its definition is 1080 x 2400 pixels against 1440 x 3168 pixels for the X2 Pro. However, it retains the HDR10 + certification.

Performances
To provide a more affordable mobile, Oppo had to plan a little performance side. Instead of the Snapdragon 865, the manufacturer opted here for a Snapdragon 765G SoC associated with an Adreno 620 GPU and 12 GB of RAM memory. The associated performance is not as good as on the X2 Pro, obviously, but the mobile is not ashamed since this SoC displays good behavior. On our protocol, the Neo obtains a RAM index of 99.58 and a game index of 85.64, which gives it a total index of 93. The terminal's Performance mode even allows it to raise the latter to 96 thanks to an index clearance increasing to 92.73. These results place the X2 Neo on the same level as a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra or a Huawei P30 Pro , still far from the best in our selection that are the Google Pixel 4 and Huawei P40 Pro .

Our performance tests are carried out with viSer, the application developed by the company SmartViser.

Photo
Oppo also revises its copy a bit in terms of photography, offering a more classic weaponry on X2 Neo. Recall that the terminal offers a main module of 48 MP, as on the Pro, as well as a 2x optical zoom of 13 MP. The differences are on the side of the ultra wide angle which here caps at 8 Mpx (against 48 Mpx on the Pro), and there is finally a monochrome lens of 2 Mpx.

Main module (48 MP, f / 1.7, 26mm)
To put it simply, the Neo main module does as well as that of the X2 Pro , providing very good day shots. Even the colorimetry seems to have been corrected to display more pronounced colors, where the Pro model was criticized for favoring a somewhat bland rendering. At night, the scene frankly lacks brightness if we allow ourselves once again the comparison with a Huawei P40 Pro, already opposed to the X2 Pro during its test. Faced with OnePlus 8 or Xiaomi Mi 10 , which are in the same price range (or almost), there is actually less to complain about this brightness. The X2 Neo does as well as the OnePlus 8, but struggles to provide as much detail as the Mi 10.

Ultra wide-angle module (8 MP, f / 2.2, 13mm)
For the ultra wide-angle, the X2 Neo is doing quite well in daylight, obtaining results close to those of the OnePlus 8, which had particularly seduced us in this area. Especially in front of a Mi 10 which struggled to hold the comparison. At night, there is nothing special to hope for from this UGA module, but it is still less painful than those offered by the two manufacturers mentioned above. If the loss of details is inevitable, the module of the X2 Neo has at least the merit of not displaying too much electronic noise, and of providing a relevant colorimetric rendering.Telephoto module (13 MP, f / 2.4, 53mm)
The third lens screwed on this photo block is therefore a telephoto lens that does not seek to do in technical prowess and is content with a 2x zoom. The results are frankly pleasant and the pictures very detailed by day. Despite a shorter focal length than that of more advanced zooms, and an aperture at f / 2.4, the night results are once again quite poor. Note that this telephoto lens can also zoom in hybrid up to 5x.

Front sensor, portrait and video mode
For its front camera, Oppo opts for a 32MP sensor that provides very detailed selfies. It is especially the video that is interesting thanks to a 4K capture at 30 fps. A very relevant double stabilization is in the game, but available only in Full HD.

Autonomy
In terms of autonomy, the Oppo Find X2 Pro did not meet our expectations, which is its main weakness. Fortunately, the X2 Neo does a little better in this area, certainly thanks to less energy-consuming components. We measured 17 h 10 min on this model with a 4025 mAh battery. On a 4260 mAh accumulator, the X2 Pro only lasted 14 h 45 min.The X2 Pro was more impressive in terms of charging since it can be fully charged in just 33 minutes. For the X2 Neo, you will have to wait 52 minutes, which is still very correct. Note that this terminal is also not compatible with wireless charging.

Our battery tests are automated by viSer, the application developed by the company SmartViser.
The results obtained with viSer come from measurements carried out under real conditions of use (calls, SMS, videos, launching of applications, web browsing, etc.).

Interface and OS
The Oppo Find X2 Neo comes with Android 10 and ColorOS 7.1, the interface developed by Oppo. The last security update of the mobile dates from May 5, 2020 to the test date. Recall that this interface has recently left us with good impressions thanks to its simplicity of handling and its sober look. It is quite easy to find your way around the options and navigate on the phone, which is also very fluid. Some applications are preinstalled, such as Netflix, the Opera browser, a video creation application called Soloop, or the famous Oppo Relax recently presented. This last application is really a gadget, offering the user to listen to relaxation sounds, or to practice breathing exercises. Why not...
